To free us from our dependency on the middle east, one option is to drill oil in alaska. But if i'm not mistaken, the oil lies under a wildlife refuge.
ask Arctic Bowman ... he lives and works in Prudhoe Bay. The "wildlife" refuge liberal dem's speak off is a wasteland best I remember, the wells that are ther already well contained, the pipeline does more good than harm etc etc. ABM posted pics of bears frolicking on the pipes, caribou using it as a wind shield etc etc.,
Not only that Stealthy, but the refuge that they are talking about is not even a dot on the map compared to the overall size of Alaska and the wetlands that it contains.
Even if thats true, (which it probably is) it would still allow us to focus less on the middle east's oil supply. And in addition to that, how many jobs would it create? starting an entire oil industry in Alaska?
I dont know a lot about it yet, I'm researching as we speak, but fromt he sounds of things, its a win-win situation so far.
The animals at Prudhoe Bay have done exactly the opposite of what the Green Peace, PETA and other organizations of like ilk and sort predicted. Rather than dwindle in numbers, they have in fact grown in numbers significantly. The pipeline not only prvides a wind block for the animals, it also serves as a source of heat in the cold winter temperatures.
It was my understanding that they were going to be tearing up quite a bit of duck and goose nesting ground if they proceeded with the drilling. Might have just been hearsay or liberal propaganda. The only problem I have with republicans in general is their less than adequate concern for the environment. [:@]
Kevin is right with in regard to the price staying about the same. Proof is on the cover of the WSJ today. Shell overstated their oil reserves by 20%. We are going to have to drill in Alaska just to keep oil prices from going up more. It doesn't stop with Shell either, almost every major petroleum/gas company in the world has overstated its reserves. Exxon is the only exception and they are still double checking. If we don't start producing more oil domestically, then we are going to be lighter in the pocket at the gas pump.
