After listening to all the media in the last few days on obesity,i cannot believe our society has reached the point of taking no responsibility for their actions! OK,the tobacco issue might be different since the manufacturers lace it with nicotine which is addictive to some people. I smoked for over 20 years, saw it was destroying my health, and stopped cold turkey in 1978. But to blame fast food for someone getting fat or blame a gun manufacturer because someone kills somebody with a gun, is absurd! Am i the only person who thinks this way,or is it just the liberals?
[:@]loner, you are NOT the only one sick of hearing about all the garbage!! I am almost ready to quit watching the news!
They said that 64% of Americans are overweight, right? Several of my family members are obese! I have NEVER seen anyone hold them down and stuff food in their mouths.
Blame the fast food franchises? NOOOOOO! Blame the makers of the high calorie, high fat dinners?? NOOOOOOO!
I worked in a medical facility for many, many years and over half of our patients were welfare recipients. Our tax money paid them NOT to work, gave them free housing, free medical care and WAY too many food stamps. Ever gotten behind a person in a store buying groceries with food stamps? Potato chips, cookies, soft drinks, TV dinners, junk, junk, junk!!! Hardly EVER any meats or items that HAD to be prepared the old way........
After we give them all that money to buy junk food with, they became obese and start having medical problems....so what do we do now? We give them diet pills and a diet program to follow, all for FREE. They go back to their public housing, and SELL the diet pills to the drug dealers.
Then I get behind them in the grocery store a month or so later and their carts have the same ole same ole junk food in them, they haven't lost a lb. but now they can afford BEER since they sold the diet pills. You can bet your life there are at least 2 six packs in that basket....
I could go on forever with this one, but I will stop for now. Giving Uncle Sam almost half of my earnings so other folks won't have to work gets me a tad riled.....[:@][:@][:@]

I am NOT depressed... I've just been in a bad mood for 7 years!
I hear your, deerhuntress56. My wife managed a few gas station years ago, and one was across the street from a public housing complex. It really tore her up so see mother after mother come in, hear their children crying that they're hungry, and put a bag of Doritos in their hands. All thanks to American's great and efficient welfare system.
We really have come to the era of anti-responsibility. It makes me ask why I want to go through life actually earning my keep through hard, honest work. Ugh, I could go on and on myself....
Hold on just a minute! I have never in my life even seen a food stamp or gotten any assistance from the gov't. I am currently losing weight, but at one time tipped the scales at 330 pounds.....5'9". I am still considered 'severely obese' by gov't standards, but I'm doing something about it. Let's not lump every overwieght or obese person in a category with those that suck free anything from the gov't. I'm not disagreeing that welfare is very much abused, but not all fat people are on welfare.
That all said, I wasn't force fed anything, but there are alot of useless foods in the supermarkets. There's more junk food in the isles than good food. Doesn't anyone find it absurd that 50 years ago people ate good, real, fresh food and we as a people were genreally healthy? I didn't just wake up one morning and was suddenly fat. Our fast paced lifestyles in this country are much to blame for the obesity epidemic. You get hungry so you stop at McDonalds for 'fast food' and figure, I'm pretty hungry, I'll 'supersize it.' That's no fault of McDonald's, but it's something that needs consideration. Americans don't exercise enough either.....I'm just as guilty of that as I am of overeating, but again it's a big problem in this country. Time constraints don't allow all of us to do things the way we should. It's a lot easier to pop a frosen pizza in the oven than it is to make a real meal....a whole lot faster too. I blame no one but myself for my weight, but I did have some help in regards to the vast array and availablity of junk food. I still bought it and I still stuffed it in my mouth, though.
Unless there is a medical reason for obesity, I can't cut anyone much slack. I grew up a pretty fat kid, stayed that way until I was about fourteen or so. I made a CONCIOUS DECISION that I was not going to be fat, and I revamped what I ate, and how much I ate. I'm 49 now, six foot three and 240 lbs. Not skinny, but not fat. If I ate everything I wanted, in the quanities I wanted, I could weigh 450 pounds easily. I fight the fight every day, and stay at a pretty good weight. If I can do it, anybody can do it
