Default California KIDS to vote?

I saw on the news today that democrats have proposed a bill that would allow 16 and 17-year-olds to vote, and 14 and 15 year olds to vote, though the 14 and 15 year olds would only have half a vote's credit per person.

republicans are already fighting it, saying that kids are too easily swayed, and thsi bill should never pass. How is it that people actually discuss the possibility of a bill like this? Do the dems REALLY need to try to corrupt the youth at ages FOURTEEN? [:@]

Let kids be kids for goodness sake!

I don't think anyone who watches MTV should be allowed to vote...and that audience is probably an older audience. Perhaps we shoud raise the age to 30, that'd be fine by me...but I guess you have sheeple no matter what.

And let the sheeple baa...

most people 18-26 years old dont know enough about what is going on to vote let alone people under that age

i know many people in that age group that will sway to whatever tv says and dont take any time out of there life to get a second opinion on anything

just my 2 cents

on a side note so you dont think i am kid bashing i am barely 29 myself

Unfortunately......as funny as this seems....it is actually very pathetic! (And it only could begin in a state such as California!)

It is not bad enough that many children run rough shod over their personal households, because so few parents discipline. But the thought that these same immature children will now be contributing to public policy in such a direct way is the surest indication of how close this society is to "self-destruct"!

Nothing but harm can....or will......come from this!

Dave

P.S. Look at all the "improvements" our society has undergone since the vote was lowered to eighteen years of age!

I'm only nineteen myself, and I have a hard time thinking people my age should vote. I vote because I know the issues. Other kids my age vote because they're told to vote. There's a commercial on MTV right now (yes, I do occasionally watch MTV) that says how many 18-26 year olds voted in the last presidential election, and it stresses the fact that things "could have been different" if more kids voted. Everything on MTV is anti war and in a round-about way, anti-bush. If I knew where to send the letter, I would write them one. A VERY strongly worded one. Its unfortunate how many kids my age are easily swayed by the liberal media, and now liberal entertainment!

They say people grow wiser with age. Maybe thats why as Americans get older, many switch from the democrat platform to republican? Just a thought...

I pretty much agree with all of you. Personally, I don't think that 21 was ever too high a voting age. But the point about 18-year-old soldiers dying without ever being able to choose their own politicians sticks with me.

I think 18 is a pretty arbitrary number, but since it's the number for many legal milestones, it's as good a number as any for voting. I agree that letting younger kids vote is absurd, but so is implying that 18-twentysomethings are unfit voters, the same could be said about any number of demographics- it wouldn't be any more true. The fact of the matter is, there are a lot of voters out there that are dangerously uninformed.

I bet there are a lot of voters that form their opinions based mostly on campaign ads, and maybe the occasional snippet from the 11:00 news. Most of them are ignorant about a lot of the issues, should they be allowed to vote?

For what it's worth, I just registered to vote a couple of weeks ago. I'm 23. I never felt I had a reason to vote until I understood what goes on in this country. Now, I pay a great deal of attention to issues and my own local gov't.....so I decided it was time.
