Apperantly since I listen to Howard Stern and would let my son listen to him as well at an appripriate age , I have been branded as a " Bad " parent by some of the bible toting cronies within this forum. Here is a short saying regarding children that I keep at my desk:
Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of lifes longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, and though they are with you , yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love , but not your thoughts. For they have their own toughts . You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow , which you cannot visit , not even in their dreams.
You may strive to be like them , but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backwards nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite and he bends you to his might that his arrows may go swift and far. Let the bending in the archers hand be for gladness ; for even as he loves the arrow that flies , so he loves also the bow that is stable.
Please do not critize someone for having a different view than your own. Especially attacking someone personally and basically saying they are a bad parent. I hope you enjoy the poem I read it every day.

At the risk of being labled a Bible-toting cronie, I thought that was one of the silliest poems I've ever read.
The attitude of just sitting back and letting kids become who they will without interfering is exactly why society is going down the toilet hole. Some parents think they should provide shelter, clothing, food and spending money for their kid and try to be their best friend. That's horse manure.
Sorry to break it to you, but a parent DOES own their kid.

I suggest you read it again , you missed the whole point. No where does it state that you should let your kids run amuck without guidence. I just love how some people think their kids should be brainwashed robots. What happened to individulity ? Seems that all the people who bash me want their kids to become what they want them to be , and the child has no choice in anything.

and your kids will be the one who end up as strippers , runaways and porn stars because their parents force fed them the bible and locked them in their room when they had a thought of their own.

and since you got me started. I just love how the religious to an obsession , raise there children better than everyone else , are going to be saved while the rest of us rot , and all the other things that you guys do better ? Who gives you the right to say which way is correct ? You are entitled to your beliefs , its just a shame that you cant see another way other than your own. Its always liberal vs Conservative , demo vs rep , beleiver vs non-believer etc.... You guys think your way is the ONLY way. Get a grip , thats why society is going down the toilet , instead of compassion and acceptance , we get the bible thown in our face everytime something doesnt agree with "THE" book. How many wars and how may people have died due to religious conflicts ? Fortunatly my generation has learned to think for itself instead of having someone elses version of whats right forced on us. By the way , I'm a republican , I go to church and I raise my son to the best of my ability and if you cant accept others on merit instead of thier beliefs .....KMA

Slug your not alone. The poem was understood by me and by the way I liked it.
My dad went wacko with religion. I was to young to experience it but I have seen signs of it as I grew up. He wasn't around much when I grew up. Deer hunting is the one thing we shared most of our time together.
You must be awfully insecure about your beliefs, slugman, since you insist on bringing up religion EVERY TIME someone disagrees with you. Religion was never mentioned on this thread and you start preaching. Get a grip, man.
When your child goes out and knocks off a bank because he was raised spoiled and led to believe that he could do whatever he wanted, are you going to say well that's okay, at least he's got individuality?
Come on, man. I respect every parent's right to raise their kids as they see fit. But you have got to teach your kids certain things in life. That's the whole point of parenting. If you don't, who will? Howard Stern?
