I received this in an email from the Brady Campaign.
We need to think about what could happen in Sept on the assault weapons bill if we don't act. Here's their version of what went down.
Little man whips a big man every time, if the little man's in the right and keeps a comin'."
The NRA's Immunity Bill is Dead
Whatever's bigger than a smile, do it right now. We've had a real victory today. The NRA's hideous immunity bill is dead and it deserves to be.
The bill that would have given immunity to Bull's Eye, the gun dealer who armed the D.C. snipers, and other reckless gun dealers has been killed.
It's the most historic day for gun safety policy in the ten years since Congress passed the landmark Brady Bill. There's a new reality today: the National Rifle Association is less powerful right now than it was 24 hours ago -- and it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.
How did this happen?
First, you did it. With your financial contributions, your petition signing, your e-mails and your calls to Washington, D.C. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Second, the nation's police were strongly opposed to the bill that would have protected reckless gun dealers, and united in supporting the renewal of the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole.
Third, because overwhelming public support -- like the 77 percent of Americans who endorse renewing the assault weapons ban -- made it clear that the NRA's extremist agenda is totally out of sync with American mainstream values.
For those of you who are interested in the details, here is the substantive update we promised you earlier in the day.
As we told you, the Senate passed both a renewal of the assault weapons ban and a bill closing the notorious gun show loophole. These measures were passed as amendments to the NRA's immunity legislation.
After these the amendments passed, the White House and the Republican Senate leadership voted against their own immunity bill. The result of all this: a major victory.
1. The immunity bill is dead.
2. The Senate has voted for renewing the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole. But because these amendments were part of the immunity bill, these measures will need to be voted on again in the future. The great news is that a majority of Senators have spoken out on these issues and, with your continuing help, we are confident they will be passed.
Once again, we want to thank you for your involvement over the past several months. The hundreds of thousands of you who signed the petition and e-mailed and called your Senators were a critical factor in today's legislative victories.
What's next? Take a day off and enjoy the victory and we'll be back to you.
Best wishes,

Wow, what ignorance and lies. Nothing said about the lawsuit bill having 55 co-sponsors and the anti-gun amendments that got added is what killed this bill. All they have to do is figure out that the 55 senators that signed on to this bill turned out to be 8 after they got their junk amendments added to it, Let them go on and live in a fantasy world, thats all they have.

THE NRA, WHERE WOULD YOU AS A GUN-OWNER BE WITHOUT THEM.
GUN-OWNERS, UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL.
They fail to mention the reason it did not pass was because the renewal of the assault weapons ban was going to be on it, so the NRA asked that it be killed.
This is the same group who prematurely proclaimed victory in renewing the AWB, only to see the whole thing killed an hour later. Their email alerts remind of classic communist propaganda writing.
