what is wrong with polygamy ?

I mean, with morality a non-issue anhmore with gay marriages, why in the world is polygamy still wrong ? Any real valid reasons or is it just not hip to be a polygamist like its hip to be ***** ?

How can you assume they are non moral persons, just because there marrige laws are diffent then yours? Other then the number of wifes, there is no difference is there?
Do you think marrige laws make a person moral?Arent most adulters married? But they take a oath before god& the laws of the land, for etirinity & then change there minds( many reasons) & then get devorced?
Some are even married( as a hetrosexual) & have there secret ***** lifes too.... not all *****s are dancing in the streets & out of the closet. No matter how cool it becomes there will be secret ones. Some may even not consider that cheating- i imagin thats how some priests, rabbi, bishops see it& imbrace oral homosexual acts. Stealthy Cat I have been waiting for the same sex marriage debate to get to this point. I agree with your reasoning. A much stronger arguement can be made for polygamy than could ever be made for same-sex marriages.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the Big-Brother and Big-Sister organztions, thier assumptions about the need for a male influance AND a female influance in the home is best for the healthy developement of children......very few people have challanged thier assumptions because it just makes good common sense.
If you are willing to let marriage become just a "thing" instead of a "idea" then why not just go whole hog and explore all the different combanations and simply agree that any reasonable workable "thing" goes.
Once you accept that marriage is not an "idea" ("idea"a concept that what goes on in a marriage effects more than just the people in the marriage----that it affects socity as a whole) then the "one woman and one man" arguement has no bearing.
A home with two imcomes along with a full time home maker would certianly offer the off-spring a better start in the world than a home with two incomes and day-care for the off-spring----or a home with one income and one full time home maker.
And if we are going down that road then lets just follow Hillery Clintons lead and agree that it "Takes a Villiage" and have 3 somes-4 somes-5somes marry.
I am of the firm opinion that other than the bielf in God...marriage(the "idea" not the "thing") is one of the most important things that seperates man from animal.

Even within that relgion i think these many splinters- most not being polygamists i think.

Hopefully more then a marrige law sepreates us from the animals - soon marrying them could be legal.

But a sick/twisted thought just coursed through my mind. Not that it's too alarming, the wife says that's all that's in there anyway...

But if polygamy does start to become more accepted, does that mean we'll eventually see polygamous gay/lesbian marriages? Basically, a house of 5-6 men or women all married to one another?

I think if the gays want a civil union, let 'em. But polygamous gay relationships....
