fry the ones on death row and we would have all those beds.
after you fry them , when one get the chair or needle , give it to them the next day and all those other scumb bags wouldn't want to go there.[8D]
the crime rate would probably go down also.

Kill all those on death row who have already had one appeal. Handle the executions quickly and with as little expense as possible. Then take care of the other prisoners who should have been put on death row in the first place---the child molesters. Once that is done, if we are still having to turn people out early or plea-bargain new cases because of lack of space, then build however more prisons are needed. Lack of space should never be an excuse for not handing out appropriate justice.
Also, see to it that the organs of all healthy executed prisoners, who test free of disease, are donated to the multitudes of people in this country who are on organ donor lists.

Get the non-violent offenders out of the prison population, find a more suitable punishment for them, fines, meaningful community service etc. Hard labor for the rest and no more country club prisons such as Allenwood for those amongst the "Elite" . Take away the television, the gymnasium and the phone priveleges. There is no rehabilitation in prison no matter what the do gooders say of the programs. Make it hard time and recidivism will drop.
we start letting in the refuges that make it here and inturn start air dropping all questionable prisoners( robbers/drug trafficers/non violent offenders)then we start killing the ones that need killin(murderes/rapists/child molesters)

I lean towards Coastie's thoughts. Any space currently devoted to TV, quality exercise equipment, and other such "percs" should, be eliminated to transformed into solitary confinement. Get the folks out of there that aren't the violent types. Find some HEAVY fine and community service restitution involving a good dose of shame and HUMILIATION.
Re-institute chain-gang labor, not just for the non-violent or the violent....but for all. plenty of bad roads in the country....plenty of work to be done...that can be their excercise. Keep up with a serious penal system revolving around real penalty and the population will dwindle before your eyes.
What over crowding? That is a bunch of liberal BS!! We have the square footage to house our prisoners if we took a page out of Turkeys prison system! All a prisoner needs and should have is a cell large enough to sleep in with a honey pot! They do not need room for TVs, radios, stereos, desk or the like, they are being punished, the only rights they should have is to have a bed, food and health care, no more, no less!

I agree with everything that's been said so far. But since I have worked in a jail for the last 20 years, I can tell you that we definitely need more prisons. Due to overcrowding at most facilities, district court commissioners find ways to release most incoming arrests before they ever see the inside of the jail itself. Judges give short sentences--or no sentence at all to alleviate this condition. And jails give good time and and several other programs which allow inmates to quickly serve a short portion of their time and get out--to make room for others. Because of this, most criminals don't worry about committing crimes because they aren't likely to serve much time--if any at all.
Additional jails with space for lots of inmates would help a lot. I'm not talking about frills or giving them anything, just room to cram them in. And remember, people like ME have to work there and we didn't do anything wrong.

All fellons get one appel that can not take more than 30 days. After that death the following day at noon in a public place for everyone to see. That is right ALL fellons get death.
Everyone else - a 4x7 foot room for 12 hours a day and a chain gang hard labor for the other 12 hours. If for some reason that they are too sick to work that day then that day does not count twards there sentance and they can stay in there 4x7. They will be stripped of ALL rights except food, water, and medical. They get nothing else.
As you can tell I am all for "Get tough on crime"! In most cases it is harder to break the law than it is to follow it!
Put the felons on an off shore uninhibited island and let them police themselfs, if they try to excape they will make good feed for the sharks, most would proablly end up killing each other. Just have someone do perimeter watch off shore to keep anyone from bringing a boat in. All the others than can occupy the present jails and bring back the chain gangs for them.
