Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Howard Stern

Whether you like him or not , do you think the FCC or our government should be able force someone off the air for decency issues ? If you are offended turn the radio off ! No one is forcing you to listen to something you find offensive. What ever happened to seperation between church and state ? It seems that the religious reich has been trying to infringe on our basic rights. It seems this all backlash from the famous Superbowl breast. If we are to protect our children from everything bad , how will they be able to function in the real world ? The senator that sent a letter to the president of Viacom about the Stern show has a 1.5mm townhouse in Washington paid for by a secrective religious group. What the hell is going on ? By the way , there are also 5 other senators that share this home.

Actually, the FCC didn't force him off the air. A change in corporate policy resulted in his removal from 6 of his 80-some affiliates.

The FCC applied presure to Clear Channel communications to remove him from their markets. By the way , Clear channel owns most of the concert house in the US. They can charge children $100 a ticket to go to OZ fest , but have issues with Howard Sterns show. He also hung up on the caller that said the " N " word that started all this.

What does seperation of church and state have to do with howard stern? The government isn't forcing any religion on you.

Anything over the public air waves has to be subject to some type of decency standards. Did howard cross some line, I don't know since I don't listen to him, I would guess that he has been towing the line for a long long time.

I think that Howard Stern is a good businessman, because he obviously found a niche of men and women who need this kind of "discussion" in their lives. Do I think he should be banned? Absolutely. There needs to be a level of decency on the waves if it is an unfiltered station. Do I think he is a disgusting person? Very much so. Get a life I say to him.

If people are going to say that the second amendment is not absolute and there needs to be "reasonable" government restrictions on it, then there needs to be "reasonable" government restrictions on free speech, especially that of which the nature is purely meant to be offensive.

slugman you are right, if "we" find it offensive "we" can turn it off. What if "we" do not want our children to listen to such filth? Do "we" take away thier radios? If they broadcast porno on TV on public channels "we" can change the station, but do "we" take the TV form our children to stop them from seeing it?

I am all for freedom of speech and the press, but I am also for a certain degree of control over smut falling in the hands of our children our into thier ears. A parent can not monitor thier childs every movement every second of every day, we can not monitor the radio station they listen to on their walkman they wear when out for a walk or out with friends, nor can we know for a certainity what may be on the TV at one of their friends house across the street.

I have listened to Stern just enough to know he is a scumbag and I would have no problem with his show being aired after 10 PM, most children, especially mine are in bed by then.

Well said, Tazman! When it comes to "public" airwaves the rules need to be different than for closed circuit or cable. Many years ago the airwaves were declared open to the public and so became our radio and tv signals. What is up in the air is or used to be free for the taking and therefore needed to be guarded and kept decent. With the onset of cable, satelite and broadband, we the people have the "choice" to go and find what we want that is confined to certain broadcast bandwidths and it can easily be controlled with "childproof" settings etc. Open airways is different and as Tazman said, the only viable option to this is take away the radios - not a good idea. Relegate those that want to create and listen to smut to airwaves that can be blocked to those who don't want it. I for one think that is a good compromise although I prefer to see it all done away with because it has no social redeeming value.
