Child Found Alive
March 1, 2004 "” The Big Story on Action News Monday evening is incredible developments involving a child thought killed by fire six years ago. We now know the child is in fact, alive. Meanwhile, an all points bulletin has been issued for Caroline Correa, 41, for kidnapping and other charges.
It all began December 15, 1997 in Philadelphia's Feltonville section. Fire incinerated a home at 4410 Hurley street.
Family members and investigators all believed the flames killed 10-day old Delimar Vera.
But investigators now say the fire was intentionally set -- a ruse intended to cover up the real crime- kidnapping.
Police believe the fire was intentionally set by a 41-year-old woman who has been raising the child as if she were her own.
The child is now in the hands of NJ State Officials, the suspect remains "on the lam" at this time.
The alleged kidnapper-arsonist has been identified as Caroline Correa, of Willingboro, New Jersey.
Police say she was an acquaintance of the infant's father, and visited the house one day before the fire broke out. The child's real mother was always suspicious that her 10-day-old daughter did not survive the fire- she found the window to her daughter's bedroom open that night, and no remains were ever found.
In January, Delimar's mother had an encounter with Corea at a birthday party, and thought the child with Correa, now 6, bore a strong resemblance to her.
She got the Philadelphia police to investigate, DNA samples were taken, and now, test results show that Delimar Cuevas has been alive all this time in New Jersey.
The child and her real mother have not been reunited yet. The 6-year-old girl is with New Jersey officials.
Meanwhile, an all points bulletin has been issued for Caroline Correa, 41, believed to be drving a 2003 burgundy -colored Chevy Impala with New Jersey plate number: NTL718. She is wanted for arson and kidnapping, among other charges.
