Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default A question about Finland

What if any major contribution for the good of the world or mankind in general has Finland made in the past?

What is Finland doing for the world or mankind now?

Please do not claim that Finland is responsible for furthering world peace, history has shown that all Finland has done is to take advantage of both sides when a conflict breaks out.

They made my cell phone. Other than that, I can't really think of anything.

To keep things in perspective, though, even with Finland's inaction during the last 50 or so years, I can think of quite a few other european nations who have done far worse.

Finland? Uh, they have a bunch of great hockey players that come to this country and play on our teams. I have no clue how to pronounce their names, but they are really good!

Meh, sauna doesn't count; that was created some time ago. Now Tikka/Sako has probably been the best thing out of the country in a long time.

Also remember that there are some six million Finns and some four million firearms.

Default RE: A question about Finland

For the record.

I am certain that both Finland....and most of it's occupants are fine! I"ve personally known some Finns that are fine people, as are many other Europeans. (Various nationalities.)

But John Bear needs to understand if he wants to come on this forum with little else to do......than "bad mouth" the United States and its citizens....he is going to "catch a little grief in return".

Before some of you "enlighten" me about "consider the source".....or "painting an entire people with a broad brush".....or another argumental equivalency....save it. I already know, and understand those issues. I spent more than eight years living in Europe. I met many wonderful, intelligent, open minded people. I made, (and still have), numerous friends in Europe. I studied, tested, and qualified for my Auslaenderjagdscheines. (A German Hunting License, and I considered it no small achievement. As an American service member it was much easier and less expensive for me to obtain than for a German citizen.....but it required much more effort to qualify for than any hunting license purchased in the United States. And nearly to a person....German hunters are wonderful conservationist.....and decent human beings.) You may ask, why does any of this matter to the above conversation? Because it slightly qualifies what I am about to say!

I'll reiterate.....I've met, known, and still know, many open minded people in numerous European nations. Most were intelligent, well schooled, and well mannered. But I also met many narrow minded, loud-mouthed, ill-mannered, (and usually also well educated, as in "schooled"), individuals that are so full of self enamored righteousness that they are nothing short of "bigots"....of a different sort! They know, and have, all the solutions to the worlds problems......and all "of those problems".....in their "considered and learned opinion" are a result of the United States! Simply put....in their opinion the United States is to blame for all of the worlds problems going back to the dawn of mankind! And no amount of polite behavior does a thing to deter their loquascious and boisterous bantering! The quieter you become.....the more convinced they are....that you are.....admitting guilt! In short....the only way to have them behave themselves...is to quickly and resolutely "put them in their place". And there is no better way than using historical facts!

I will not be an American apologist. Americans have no more that inherently needs apologizing for then any other group of people! Least of all......to....or compared to europeans! If you are feeling "guilt ridden" and need to be apologetic.....be my guest! I will not! And trust me.....it is not ruining "my health"!

Thank you for your time. Proud to be American!

Dave

P.S. See what you've done now! I'm going to listen to some Toby Keith!
