Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Expected mothers get own parking space

Since I stutter, I want my own parking space too. While we're at it why don't we give all the people who use dial soap their own parking space.... I frickin hate California!!!!!!![:@]

LOS ANGELES "” A bill in the California Legislature would allow women in their final trimesters to apply for a special placard allowing them to park in handicapped spaces (search), but some disabled people say they are worried the additional permits will squeeze them out.

Half a million California women would be eligible for the permits, taking up spaces that advocates for the disabled say are already scarce.

Additionally, some women are upset with the initiative, saying that defining pregnant women as handicapped would be a setback for women's rights.

But some say parking close to a destination would surely help in those final days of pregnancy.

"I think handicapped parking for pregnant women is a great idea," said mother-to-be Gabrielle Cohen. "There are just some days that you feel horrible, that you're totally fatigued and that you're short of breath because of where the baby's sitting. And you still have to go on with your normal life and it makes it really difficult to go out and do the things you have to do."

The author of the bill, Republican Assemblyman Tony Strickland (search), said he just wants to give pregnant women a break and that there"™s plenty of room for compromise, including possibly creating more handicapped spots.

I heard about this the other day. What a joke.
If the mother to be is in such a poor state than let her Doctor write her up for a temporary handicap permit like they do for people with other tempory problems. Do it on a case by case basis.
The last time I heard, getting pregeant was not a disability. it was voluntary, and as of now a Choice. They can't have it both ways.

Couple of things here. First, tell the handicap people to stop bitching, anyone ever see more than one handicap spot filled at any store? Maybe at the hieght of the christmas shopping frenzy, maybe. Second, a man introduced this bill, I think a woman should knock him upside the head.

There are alot of stores (grocery mainly) that have expectant mothers parking, and it's one or 2 spots right next to the handicap parking here in Colorado. It's a nice gesture I think, but for gods sake keep the friggen government pig out of this

The fact that we even need a law such as this shows how far downhill our society has gone. Have men in this country gotten so lazy that we would rather make a pregnant woman walk further just so we don't have to? What ever happened to common courtesy? I guess we are raised differant down here in the south.

Why doesn't her husband go shopping for her on those "feeling horrible" days?

I know why. Her husband is probably tired of her whining, so he's sitting at the bar, having a cold brewski.

Well you can blame a lot of that on womens rights. Women want to be so friggin indipendant, they don't need a mans help, they have their own careers, they make their own money and don't have time for men, etc...etc...

I can't even count the number of times that I have held open doors for women and they either didn't walk through them or when they do they don't feel the need to say thank you.
Stop the car for a woman to cross in front of me and don't get so much as a wave of thanks. Makes me want to either slam the door on the back of their feet or gun the car. Women have no one to blame but themselves.

I didn't get them pregnant so let them walk or the husband can drop them off on the sidewalk!!

Not all women are like this but it seems to be a growing thing amongst the women. If you are not one of these women please disregard.

I'll tell you what I see a lot. People that are perfectly capeable of walking through a parking lot that somehow get these handicap mirror tags taking up the handicap parking places for no damn good reason other than they are sazy SOB's. Or non handicap spouces that feel like they can park in the handicap places when their handicap spouce is either staying in the car or not even with them.

Sorry for the rant but these two things really burn my arse.[:@]

Women must be differant in your part of the country because for every one that doesn't say thank you when I hold a door for them 20 will. I was raised to be a gentleman and wont change because of the ocasional rude woman. I bet every one who bitches about giving pregnant women a close parking space would get pissed if some guy took a close parking space and made their pregnant wife or sister walk a long way to get into a store. Yea I get pissed when I see some one who is obviously not handicapped parking in a handicap space but I hope I never get so petty that I begrudge giving a pregnant woman a parking space remember your mothers were all pregnant women at one time

What has happened to you people ? You have a woman who bears the weight of carrying a child - physically and mentally tough - and you bitch because society gives her a parking space a little closer to the front door of the store ??

If ANYONE deserves/needs that space pregnant women fits the bill. Most handicap people NEED to walk the extra walk, handicap and elderly too. Heck truth be known most handicap stickers are for people who are no more handicap than you or I ! I've seen a lot of stores that have special pregnancy parking and I have no problems at all with it, none at all.

Make it a Federal Law ... it'd be the best one we've had in a long time.

The handicpped spaces need to be kept for disabled people and maybe two spots with a blue pregnant woman outlined for that. Many times the handicapped spaces are filled here in AZ because every near dead that flocks here in the winter gets one. Very few are actually disabled and the doctors seem to give out passes to anyone over 65. My wife does have one and she looks normal but has fibromyalgia and is in severe chronic pain in the joints. She has been yelled at for parking in disabled spots but unfortunately was alone or there would be teeth on the pavement. Keep in mind that you don't always know what people are suffering and take your best shot.
