Default 70% tax rate???

Is this accurate? I've read this about 5 times now, and after sitting down and figuring it...it's not too far off.

Your pay is taxed at whatever rate you fall into.
Your home/property is taxed out the yazoo.
You buy most anything from the store...sales tax.
In Ohio gas is over $.40/gal tax. I spend over$100/mo...that's over $500/year.
Personal property in some places.
Gains tax in some places.
Land line and cell phone bills are approaching 50% tax.
All utilities bills are heavily taxed.
Hotels stays are taxed heavily.

If this is the case, how can someone claim that a %15 flat tax will work? Not gonna make the dems happy to cut all that fat. LOL

God is this frustrating. It makes me want to vote NO on every tax/levy issue that comes before me.

In the last 10 years I can't think of one tax increase that I did vote yes on. 70% sounds really high and if I sat down and figured out what I pay I would need some prozac so I think I'll just take you word on it.

I have been saying for years, on this very board, that "Income" tax stays in the news so much not because of it's importance in relation to taxes,,,But as a ruse to prevent folks from thinking about all the OTHER taxes they pay.

Contemplating the overall taxes that you pay is enough to make you purple in the face.

I refuse to vote yes on any new tax measure. The only taxes I wholeheartedly support are those that pay the men and women defending our country. Other than that, you can keep your social programs, anything of that nature. If I could, I would repeal just about every tax and tax law out there today.

ProLine,

You may be a math teacher, but $100/mo is a bit more than $500/year, unless you are walking 7 months out of the year.

Bill

P.S. I'm an engineer with a calculator in my head.

To stand up for my fellow Ohio math teacher...

$100 per month in gas, $.40 tax = $40 per month.

$40 times 12 months = $480.

Now he said he spends over $100 per month. So, over $500 per year sounds about right.

OK, the tax is $.40 per gal, not $.40 per dollar.

If gas is $1.50 a gal and he spends $100 on gas(66.66666 gal X .40) that comes out to $26.67 per $100 or $315.24 per year.Or did I miss something here?
Either way we pay too much taxes.

I think the 15% value is just everybodies income tax, not all taxes combined. I do like the idea of a flat tax with no (as in zero, zip, zilch nada) deductions, everbody born equal everyone pays the exact same percentage

LET ME CLARIFY...I said I spend OVER $100/month on gas. It's actually about $150/month. That's about $1800/year in gas which I figured is 1160 gallons. The $.44 tax per gallon comes to $510 in tax per year.

But, THAT'S not the point. Why should MY money be taxed so many different times. That's like baiting your hook with 4 night crawlers to catch one catfish. If you screw up the hook-set the first time, you lose.
