Default How about Korea gun laws

One chatroom i found this. I don't know is this true but I can imagine that it could be. I just thank somebody that we don't have this kind of laws

"The most restrictive country for hunting in the world may be Korea.
Here are the facts,

1. You need to take test for theory and regulation before they issue
you a hunting license. The passing rate is between 60 to 70%. Many
ordinary people fail and they try over and over.
2. The hunting license is very expensive, about $250 for each county.
Korean county is generally much smaller than the county in US. If you
want to hunt in several counties, you need to spend about $3000.
3. The hunting season is very long, starting from Nov.1 to the end of
Feb. fo all games, it is not a very good idea of killing deer or a
wild boar that is pregnant in Feb.
4. The firearm is very strictly controlled. You are not allowed to
have rifle.
Only shotgun is allowed and using slug is prohibited. Hunting mean
siberian wild boar with buck shot is dangerous.
5. You cannot keep a shotgun at home. You need to keep it at the
police station and every morning you go hunting, need to go to the
local police station and pick it up.Every evening when the hunting is
over, you need to take the gun back to any police station near where
you hunted.
6.Shotgun is very expensive, about $2250 for a Benelli super 90.
7.You are not allowed to have a dog when you are hunting alone.
Hypothetically, you can cut your dog in half and use it. They
stipulate that you are allowed to use only one dog for every two
hunters. Reason? The animal protection group claimed that dog will
kill any wild game.
8. You are not allowed to discharge firearm within 600 meters from any
country road or any house. This is 1/3 mile!!! One guy was caught by
hunter watch civillian when shooting a dove in about 500 meters from
the road. He protested and ended up measuring the distance with tape
measure and he was short by 20 feet ( 6 meters ). Result? His license
was revoked for 5 years and his expensive shotgun was confiscated for
good. In Korea, any small fracion of violation of hunting rule reuslts
in confiscation of firearm, period. No mercy!!Even though hter are no
game wardens, police and civilian hunter watchers are very active.
9.This year, some counties prohibit water fowl hunting claiming that
there are not enough water fowl population in the area. The reason?
They surveyed the duck and geese population in July and August.
10.They do not understand many different species of Ducks. There are
several hundred thousands of Baikal teals visiting Korea every year
but they made it a protected species because this particular duck has
a distinctive pattern of Korean national flag.
11. Why all this fiasco? The county workers who set the rule has no
knowledge of hunting or a wild game. They never hunted in their life,
they just make the rule inside the smoke filled office."

Free translation in some saying: "if you give them a finger tip they will take whole hand"

While I'm at it, why not throw in a steel-toed boot for good measure?

Does anyone still wonder why we need to horde our sovereignty? I like our Constitution just fine.....the rest of the world can do as they like. Just leave us the heck alone!

One more reason to never enter agreements or treaties that would subject us to a "world court"! As if we needed any more evidence.....[:'(]

I spent 4 years there. You sort of have to understand the people and the system. Their system works for them. It would never work for us. We were born into the gun and hunting culture, they were born into a war that never ended. Many older Koreans can still remember the ***anese occupation. It is hard for them to trust anyone with guns, even their own military. There isn't much land there to begin with so there is not much area to hunt, not to mention about the only game animal is pheasant. Like I said, their system wouldn't work for us but thats no reason to look down your noses at the Korean people.

oh i understand the culture. i worked with two older koreans who i would have loved to had as nieghbors in the states. they both lived through the war and were very grateful to the U.S.
i also lived in the "vill" so i was living the korean way.
Frizzellr i flipped the lifestyle off. the smells ,the little crammed up roads, rice fields outside my windows, the dog eating folks, well for me just the whole korean culture.
now as for the pheasants i saw lots around camp humphreys and would have loved to have hunted them but i recall conversations about guns with mr. kim and mr. yi.
they just couldnt believe that i had so many guns . i showed them pictures of my guns and they were just amazed that we could have guns.
it is a little country but that is the reason i think they need guns even more than us. especially with there nieghbors to the north.

You know arm that many south koreans and the north would be idiots to invade. no deterent like a armed populas!

When I first read the original post, I laughed because I thought those rules were so ridiculous. But I sometimes forget that being an American is a LOT different than being from another country.

So good call, frizzellr, you brought me back to my senses
