Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Perhaps the confusion lay in the definition of "race"

What defines a race? What does being an "afro-american" or "african-american" or what ever - WHAT defines that? Is it the color of your skin? If so, should you get special treatment for having a variance of skin tone - and when or where does your lightness stop being part of the "race" you belong to?

Cameren Diaz is a Cuban American... So, being from cuba, she is considered a minority? Halle Berry is milado <sp?> (1/2 white, 1/2 black) is she a minority? If she had kids with someone lighter than her, are those kids minorities?

If race isn't about color, but your heritage - do you discualify those who no longer have the skin tone of their minority status heritage?

Can someone PLEASE help me out on this?

Legally you are the race you are if you are black or Indian as long as you have one drop of black or Indian blood in you no matter if you are 90% white. Now the law may be different in different states or may have changed, but the last time I checked that is the way it was.

However here is an interesting point, if you are 25% or less black or Indian you can legally declare yourself white when filling out documents.

Tazman - My aunt traced my lineage back to Powhatan .... am I a native American ? Why hell no, my skin color is white, therefore I am one of the ones who oppressed all others.

Its provable Tazman, my aunt is big time into genealogy. I bet the majority of people who've had ancestors in this country for 80-100 years are tied to American Indian blood. Proavable is another thing, but I bet its a true statement too. A lot of us have black ancestors too - shocking to soutehrn white folks
