Did anybody see this special COPS show?? It was mainly shot down in Texas and featured, what else, domestic violence. Somebody at the network has a sick sense of humor.

When cupid is in Texas he wears a wife beat'in shirt, and while holding a "lone star" in one hand, he shoots a hole thru the wall of a double-wide with a .357 with the other, to win over the ladies heart.
I watched it. Geez, some people are messed up! It must be so extremely frustrating as a police officer to go back to the same houses over and over again, arresting the abusers, and knowing that the person being abused is most likely gonna let them right back in! It's most sad for the children who are forced to live that way.
I was surprised to see that some states still allow the police officers to make the decision to not arrest anyone, and just tell the parties to "stay away from each other tonight and work it out tomorrow". I was somehow under the impression that all states had mandatory arrest for domestic abuse.

With all the domestic violence I dealt with as an MP, I still never could figure out what went through the wifes mind when she'd take the guy back after he beat the snot out of her. Then again, I never really could understand what kind of scumsucking lowlife would ever raise his hand to his wife in anger in the first place. Boggles my mind.
I, for one am proud to say that I've never raised a hand to a woman in anger, and I never will. Especially since I know that if I ever did hit my wife she'd blow my balls off with my 12ga, and wait until I bled out to call 911! Why more women aren't like her when it comes to abusive men I have no idea.
I watch the first half hour of it. It always amazes me that some woman will let a man raise a hand to her. My mom was a pretty strong willed woman, and my dad was a gentleman, so my sisters all grew up strong willed thank god. If one of my brother in laws ever raised a hand they would get the crap smacked out of them, then 5 hours latter when my flight got in, I would finish the job that my sister started.

hntngirl, although I am not familiar with Texas laws, I am pretty sure just the opposite is true. If the cops didn't arrest the suspect for wife beating, it was because they needed the wife to press charges. That whole mandatory arrest issue for domestic violence got a bit of false spin at the beginning. Although I won't deny that some cops probably did not want to deal with it, the vast majority do and were hamstrung by not being to arrest the suspect without the wife pressing charges. And yes guys, I know the husband isn't always the suspect. I have arrested a few wives too.
Note to self--Be very, very nice to driftrider's wife if we ever have a HN get together and be sure to buy Mike a beer.

To be honest, I don't know what the Texas laws are about domestic violence. I don't beat my wife and never will. There have been times I have feared she would beat me....but she has spared me.
I have helped out at the local crisis center however, and I can tell you it is a gut wrenching experience to deal with a battered wife who has young children that just want to go out and play...they want all this hate to go away. But they can't go out and play because their drunk daddy is trying to scale the privacy fence to take care of things....his way. That's just one case but there are others.
And....it's not just in Texas. Domestic violence is everywhere. If you think it's not in your area you aren't paying attention. Also, the COPS show about domestic violence illustrates why not just anybody can be a cop. I know people in law enforcement who see dealing with those cases as the worst part of their job. I'm through rambling.
