I don't like what Governor Pataki is trying to do to pistol permit holders in New York State.
He is proposing some very high fees on permit holders.
Permits would have to be renewed and the fees would be charged with each renewal.
He is also proposing to lift the cap on what individual counties can charge for the permits.
Pistol permits will soon become very expensive in New York if something is not done.
Below is a generic letter I have drafted to Pataki.
If you agree with me, copy/paste it into your word processor, then make a copy and send it to Pataki.
It can't be any easier than that...if you NY residents don't do it...you will pay! Also, call him at: (518) 455-5797

Dear Governor Pataki,
I am a resident of New York State. In the past, I have voted for Republicans in New York.
I am writing to inform you of my displeasure over your
proposed pistol permit fees. If these fees are enacted, I am through giving my support to Republicans in New York, and to you in particular. I will not support a political party that works against my interests.
Sir, I suggest that you find other ways to raise money in New York....ways that impact all citizens...not just a few. Better yet, I suggest that all of you in State government find ways to SAVE money in New York!
That's interesting. I have been arguing with a fellow New York resident of your sfor the last week or so over several different threads about gun registration and confiscation. IMHO taxing registered guns to the point where only the very wealthy can afford them is the same as confiscation.[:@]

The best thing I can say to New Yorkers is LEAVE NEW YORK STATE!!! It is not the same anymore. I mean, hey, I grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY as a kid. I loved New York. My dad was a senior electronics engineer with IBM. We had a summer cottage way up in the Adirondack Mts. In the 60's, 70's, New York was awesome... [8D] Nowadays? You couldn't get me back to New York for anything!
My sister and brother-in-law went through absolute H*LL getting pistol permits in Newburgh, NY. It took (no lie) 6 $*#&^@ MONTHS!!! [:@] I told them about the laws in Virginia and how I wanted a Marlin .22 like I had as a kid, so I went out and bought one. Same with my Remington 870 12GA. Same with the small Taurus Mod 85 .38 special snubby. I got that too.... No crazy red tape and miles of paperwork and stupid rules of WHY you need to own a firearm. Hey, I want one because the 2nd Amendment says I can have one! Why is that such a problem?!?! [:@][:'(]
Anyway, my sister and brother-in-law got so sick of New York that they actually did that early out/opt out/early retirement thing at IBM, and said GOOD RIDDANCE to New York and moved down here to Richmond, VA. They love it here!
Good luck to all New Yorkers. If you can get Hil-LIAR-y Clinton and that Chuck Schumer guy out of office, you will be okay.
