Attack on Gun Victims/Gun Industry Immunity BillThe extremist gun lobby has been pushing legislation that would take away the legal rights of gun violence victims and give sweeping legal immunity to the gun industry. Legislation (H.R. 1036) has already passed the House of Representatives, and it will be up to the United States Senate to stop this unconscionable and reckless legislation. The Senate bills are S. 659, S. 1805, and S. 1806.
Assault Weapons Ban
The federal assault weapons law, passed in 1994 as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, prohibits the manufacture and sale of certain military-style, semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition magazines that hold more than ten rounds. But the law will expire ("sunset") in September 2004 unless Congress and the President renew it. If the law is not reauthorized, the manufacture and sale of AK-47s, UZIs, other assault weapons, and high-capacity ammunition clips will once again be legal.
