First time I've read it... Anyhow, yes, I understand the conflict - what determins race? You may think it is a stupid question, but, had any of my kids done the same thing (1 blond hair blue eyed, 2 brown hair, 1 with blue eyes, the youngest green - and would pass easily as white) have a mother who is 1/2 black. What race are my kids? What race is my wife? If race isn't about color, what is it? If racial preferances exist the time my kids are in college, you can bet they are going to be applying for them. (the 2 kids on the left are my oldest 2)

This is an excellent example of the public school system having two sets of rules. On for the teacher/administrators and one for the students and their families.
There is no wiggle room in the rules as they refer to weapons of any type. A butter knife is a Knife and if a kid has one in his backpack he's out, gone. Absolute. Nail clippers, scissors there is no degree of judgement or interpretations allowed. Those are the rules as they are written. " So it is writen, so it shall be done!"
Well this kid is an African and an American therefore he fits the rules but not to the interpretation of the school in this case. They, the school admin wants it both ways. They will lose their butts in a law suit. Ignorant PC arrogant snobs.
And in the first place how in this country can we allow only people of a certian race to be eligible for a contest among students of a public school. How about a contest for George Washingtons birthday for the best White American in school. Yeah, that would fly. Whats next, Miss Black America?
I think these kids should be given a lot of credit for shinning a light on the hipocrisy of their school system.

The boy is african american which is an ethnicity, not a race.
The Black leadership has hijacked an origin to mean the same thing as a race.
It would be the same as trying to pin a race on a North American.
