One may be able to afford the ropers, the wranglers, the stetsons, the belt buckles, the duallys, the ranch, the critters on the ranch, and the numerous photo ops, but that does not make one a cowboy.

BTW, John Wayne hated horses

Thanks for the post.
To me, George W. Bush is a man of many hats....and a cowboy hat is one of them. He is a successful businessman, rancher, politician, hunter, fisherman, land owner, investor, husband, father, fighter pilot (and spare me the National Guard crap), and once owned the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. I think he plays a pretty good round of golf, too. I've seen him wear many different hats well.
But we aren't talking about REAL cowboys in this respect, are we? The inference here is that Bush is a HOT DOG....
Around these parts, if you call a cop a cowboy, it is almost the ultimate put-down. It means they are pushy, show-offy, abrasive, obnoxious, and generally conduct themselves in a non-professional manner. I'm assuming references to Bush as a cowboy are along these lines. That is really a lame attempt at a political put-down and also takes away from the legacy of the real American cowboy.
So....thanks for the tribute here to the America cowboy and to George W. Bush. He is a cowboy.
