To me the 2nd amendment is pretty clear. But for arguments sake, the best way to find out exactly what the 2nd amendment (& the others as well) originally meant would be to allow those who were involved with, as well as their contemporaries, to define exactly what this meant. Ifford posted a number of good quotes by those key important people which I'm sure most everyone here is familiar with:
"Americans [have] the right and advantage of being armed--unlike citizens of those countries whose governments are afraid to trust people with arms."
-James Madison
"I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people... To disarm the people, that is the best and most effective way to enslave them..."
-George Mason
"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms ......"
-Thomas Jefferson
"Arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance of power is the scale of peace."
-Thomas Paine.
"A free people ought...to be armed..."
- George Washington (this one by Hip)

The 2nd Amendment does not give anyone the right to own guns.

According to those mentioned above, it does. But who were they??

It is not considered a citizens gun amendment even by this current conservative court.

Conservative or not, if that's true, then they're wrong.
