I live in Indiana. Fishing is excellant. We have every kind of panfish, largemouth, smallmouth, walleye, pike, catfish and we have lake Michigan for salmon, perch and trout. We dont have any mountains but southern IN has some hilly areas. The area I live in, NW IN, is mostly farmland. Have you ever had a corn fed deer? I've taken bucks that weigh 200# field dressed. Mature does average about 120#.
2003 9 point taken with a bow.
I've taken my share of large bucks small bucks and I've lost count of how many does, 2 this season. The DNR put a 1 buck per year limit in place 2 years ago.

I passed up 4 bucks this year before this fellow came through.
You cant hunt with a rifle. I think the doe limit is 6, I would never need that many so I dont pay much attention to what the limit is. I have never had a problem getting 2 does a year though. You can hunt with bow (my favorite) shotgun, pistol, muzzleloader and crossbow. We have whitetail, phesant, quail (I dont mean Dan Quail) rabbit, squirel, coyote, turkey and just about every kind of varmit.
Bow season runs from Oct. 1 To I think Jan 4. I usally have plenty of meat in the freezer by Dec. Firearm season starts mid Nov and goes to mid Dec. That includes all the firearm seasons shot gun, pistol and muzzleloader. Turkey season is in the spring no fall turkey season.
Gas right now is $1.53 a gallon. Property taxes in my county are very reasonable. I have a 2200 sq. ft. brick home, with a barn, built in 1985 on 3 acres and my taxes are $1200 per year. State sales tax is 6%. This is a fairly cheap state to live in. Winters can be brutal and summers can be scorchers with the humitity. But there are always breaks in the weather where it is downright pleasent. You must be 16 to drive.
Our gun laws are great. We have right to carry laws that have been on the books for as long as I can remember. I've had my conceal carry permit for 16 years. If your not a felon or a nut you can get a concealed permit pretty easy.
I was born and raised here. I have traveled the country from the east coast to the west cost even worked in Valdez Alaska for 2 summers (thats the life). I wont say this is the perfect place to live and I dont think I will live here after I retire but for now things are very good.
Let me know if you want any other info.
Good Luck,
