Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

The grass isnt green here inless you water it. Thats why i dont plant any

And even if you water it, unless you treat the water first, you will acumulate harmfull salts& minerals in the top soil.

I let mother nature take care of these things& SHE says "why do you want a green lawn like you live in Va?- this is the high plains semi arid desert region. Get use to dust & prickly things.

Hi Dave590,

When we bought our home in Alaska...the yard was an assortment of grass, gravel, weeds, and much of it was "wooded". When we moved in snow was on the ground. That first spring my wife took one look at the yard and asked, "Honey, are we going to plant grass seed"?

I looked at her in disbelief...and replied, "H**l no! If I wanted to cut grass every weekend....I would have stayed in Pennsylvania. I didn't move to Alaska to mow the yard."

We did not plant grass seed. I got out the weed whacker once a month or so and kept the "yard" portion of the property.....looking like a "proper Alaskan yard".....the rest of the weeds were killed off each winter. God I miss Alaska!

There is some truth to the illusion, just watch fenced in cattle when there is ample grass on both sides of the fence. ( best done while drinking beer and in a sitting position) Of course they don't have to maintain it in the true sense of the word but they do a great job of fertilizing the area.
