Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default More Taxes on the middle class??????????

PUTTING MORE SCREWS INTO THE MIDDLE CLASS????

ISSUE: According to the Small Business Survival Committee
(www.sbsc.org), there is an issue right now before the United
States Senate that amounts to nothing less than a new tax on
Middle America and a power grab on our freedom to choose the
vehicles we need to provide for the safety of our families.

This comes in the form of a radical proposal to raise the
Mile Per Gallon (mpg) mandate on SUVs, minivans and pickup
trucks to 40 mpg. Liberals don't care that Corporate Average
Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations cost Middle America up to
$2,750 per vehicle, or that they cost LIVES; they're just
pushing a "feel good" measure that does absolutely nothing
to address our energy needs.

The CAFE regulation would risk driver safety by forcing U.S.
automakers to build smaller and less safe vehicles. A "USA
Today" article has reported that 46,000 Americans have lost
their lives in smaller, less safe cars that have poured onto
the nation's highways since Congressional passage of increased
CAFE regulations in the 1970s. This is yet another example of
how government regulations hurt individuals that liberals say
they are helping.

The last thing our economy needs right now is another tax
increase -- even a "hidden" one. Senate Plurality Leader Tom
Daschle (D-SD), in addition to blocking much-needed tax relief,
has now scheduled a vote on the CAFE Bill for mid-February.

A Valentine's Day gift to Middle America, it is not.

Consider that half the new vehicles now being sold are SUVs,
minivans or pickup trucks. The auto industry is one sector of
our economy that has been largely resistant to the recession.
Consumers continue to buy these popular vehicles at record
levels, which is helping to keep our economy afloat.

ACTION ITEM: Conservatives need to stand up and oppose this
new tax and assault on our freedom. The CAFE issue is one we
can clearly use in the 2002 elections to define the difference
between out-of-touch liberals and sound conservatives on
"pocketbook issues" facing Middle America.

To help defeat this "Tax on Middle America" -- this deadly and
misguided regulation -- contact your Representative and Senators
now, urging them to oppose any new mileage regulations under
consideration by Congress. CLICK BELOW to use our Contact Center:

which means you can't contact them through our Contact Center.
If any of your Senators or Representatives is one of these
legislators, you can still reach them electronically through
their contact page; look up their website at

at any future time. If you prefer to contact your Congressmen
yourself, feel free to use the letter we've provided below:

=====================

Dear Legislator,

As one of your constituents, I urge you to oppose any new mileage
regulations under consideration by Congress.

Mileage regulations will drive up the costs of new vehicles, leave
them smaller and less powerful, and will cost American lives on
the highway.

Washington shouldn't be in the business of designing cars and
trucks. Please VOTE NO on new mileage regulations.

Sincerely,

[Include your name, full address and telephone number]

NOTE: Please forward this email to everyone you know who wants to
help beat back this liberal attack on our economy -- and our
freedom. Thank you!

Default RE: More Taxes on the middle class??????????

40mpg is rediculus. almost all cars dont get that good a gas mileage and they expect that you can just make trucks and suvs magically better than cars. my ford ranger with nothing but me in it gets only 25mpg and i dont have a/c or anything.
