Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default drug testing for kids at school

What do you think about Bushs recommendation that all kids in public school get drug tested?

I think it's another load of crap myself. I don't really have a problem with testing kids to see if they are on drugs, if it's done by the parents. There are tests you can buy and do all yourself, the government isn't reponsible to raise our children!

This should be an interesting thread...

When do "human rights" begin?

Do students forfeit rights because there is public $$$$$$$$$$$$ involved?

How should the results of such testing be handled? Publicly or privately? (Don't forget society has deemed special plates for drunk drivers)

Will treatment program be mandated next?

Will being clean and sober be a prerequisite to graduation?

Will alcohol be treated the same as other illegal substances?

Will the athletes get the same treatment as other students? (That would be novel)

vc
You have brought up all the issues I have been pondering.

Another to consider: It is not illegal to have trace amounts of a substance that has been metabolized in you system, there for, no legal implications.

What about the parents who allow their kids to use controlled substance.

Another thought, when are we going to start having random house searches.
People get away with criminal acts in the home every day.

To me it is a load of crap. I will not allow my kids to be tested. They have
my trust until proven other wise. Then I will deal with the problem, not the
government. Im starting to get a little feed up the pot belly spending Bush
has incorporated in his national views.

I have a good kid, she's 8 years old, or maybe shes 13 years old and going to public school. Do I want her surrounded with kids committing illegal drug use ? Does my little girl need to have that additional impact in her life ? Shes fullfilling her obligation to attain a high school education by meeting the requirements set by the State and Govt - why can't the State and Govt meet their end of the bargain and provide her a safe place to do it ?

========== eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk ==============

(the sounds of gears grinding)

You don't touch my daughter. Shes my child and my responsibility. Its an intrusion to her privacy to test her ... and how you going to test her ? What if the tests come back and shes falsely accused ? How much money is this going to cost ? Whats the penalties if found with drugs in your system ? You going to test for illegal tobacco (smoke and chew) too ? Presription drugs ? Is this going to be another "absolutely no tolerance" like the kids getting expelled by having a steak knife in their lunchbox ?

=============eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk ==============
(more grinding noises)

Truthfully, with my duaghter starting kindergarden next year, I like the idea. I don't know how the testing can be done non-intrusively, or how it can be done across the boards without seperating certain students out - but there is widespread drug and alcohol use in ever school I've ever seen and heard about and the time is now to crack down on it. Seriously, and hold the parents accountable too. Enough is enough, and I for one do not want my daughter in a school with crackheads, dopers and alcholics influencing her beyond what life in general already does.

I will say a part of me still opposed it though, and the HOW of it will greatly influence if it ever will work

friggen stealthy, I'm guessing that your last response is how you ultimently feel, but who knows with you. If you are for governmental drug testing of your children, why stop there, lets implement these tests also

1) percentage of body fat - if the government thinks your kids are too fat, they send them to a fat farm till they get under the governmental recommended body fat minimun for there age

2) ATD testing - the government will test your child to see if they have ATD, if they do, they will write up a script and drugging your child will be manditory till they are 18 y/o

3) Hygene test - The implement of this test will be 3 specially trained bloodhounds, they will sniff every child as they enter the school, if the dogs are alerted to your childs smell, they will be dragged to a specially designed shower facility in the school and hosed down

4) Depression testing - every teenage kid will be tested for depression atleast once a month. The ones who test positive will be hauled off and required to pass a "happy living" test

Oh crap, I have to get back to work now, if I don't work 50 hours a week and pay my unfair share of taxes the government can't raise YOUR kids
