Default Change the NRA???

A lot of people on this board have mentioned they get tired of the NRA soliciting money, duplicating mail, etc. What would you change in the NRA and why? Not meant to bash the NRA but serious questions seeking constructive criticism.

I agree. I am a member now for quite a few years, and I am well aware when my membership will run out. The last time I renewed my membership for, I think 2 years, they sent me a letter a couple months later say they new I just renewed it but the wanted to know if I wanted to add on a couple more years to my membership. If I wanted to do that I would have the first time, and saved some money. They are always asking for donations which not everyone has all the time. I think they would be better off saving the postage and using that for their causes. And if they need to solicite more money, then put solicitations in the monthly magazine. They would save postage and also give the mail carriers a break.

The NRA is financially strappped. They have spent more than they take in....hence they are like many Americans who pay one credit card bill with another credit card...they need to seek more revenue.

This will earn me a few flames from certain folks around here but I still say the NRA has gotten away from its original vision. I am no longer a member because I got tired of the soliciation for money, plain and simple. The NRA served, and still does to a great extent, as a voice for the millions of gunowners to freakin lazy to get off their butt and do something for their rights. I'm afraid, however, that unless they do something to cut their needless spending, that they aren't going to be providing a voice much longer.

I get tired of the constant solicitations for money. The last time I renewed for two years and within three months I was being asked to extend my membership. They could move there publications to bi-monthly and just send my renewal notice 45 days early, Also I can do away with the free stuff that they use to get you to renew.

I've ven been asked to remember the NRA in my will.....gimme a break....I was insulted.

It's not as abd as it was in the 1970s when they jumped in bed with the John Birch society.....what they did then was truly an act of idiocy.

I keep my membership up because I've made that committment to do so.....They too must learn to live on their income....as we all do!

I understand all of you being upset about solicitations, but without them people just don't automatically send in donations. You have to understand that the price of sending out mailers for donations is far less expensive than you think. Bulk rate mail is a great savings. And if 1 in 20 people send in 10.00 they are ahead.

Instead of dropping your memberships. Why don't you call them and ask to be removed from their solicitation list. You do have that option. Then you can save them the wasted money that you claim could be better spent elsewhere. Also you can tell them when you renew your memberships that you don't need the hat or key chain that they send for renewals. All you gotta do is call them.

One more note:

If you think that the NRA sends out alot of solicitations for money, then you haven't ever been a member of the CCRKB or SAF. I get tons of letters from the Second Amendment Foundation, but still keep my membership. If your looking for a Gun Rights group who will only ask you once or twice a year for donations. Join Gun Owners of America, the only mail I get from them is a yearly reminder to renew membership.

I dont get all the mailings and callings and stuff. Dont know why but I have never gotten them. Ive been a life member for over 10 years & Regular annual member brfore that.

The only thing I get is my Hunter mag, NRA ILA newsletter. and NRA Insights for the kids.

Im also a NRA ILA Grassroots volunteer, and maybe they know Im already doing more to save our rights then 98% of the rest of the gun owners.

I also forgot to say that the changes I would make is to add that GA amendment that we tried to add awhile back. To make NRA more accountable to the members and State leaders.
