In this New Year, we are writing to urge you to do just one thing. Simply sign the petition on

As I write to you, hundreds of letters just like this are being sent to thousands of people across the country, friend to friend. We must get 100,000 signatures by next Monday to stop the NRA from their
latest assault. Here is what is going on.
The National Rifle Association has quietly sneaked a provision into a spending bill that has absolutely nothing to do with gun issues. It's a total outrage. The provision (the Tiahrt amendment) will be voted on
next Tuesday and if this provision isn't dropped, the spending bill will effectively gut the Brady Bill (the most important gun control bill of the last 10 years).
It's an outrage like few others and we must stop it. Police groups are against it. The FBI has said it will hurt law enforcement. But the NRA doesn't care.
Four years ago, over 750,000 women marched on Washington to demand sane gun laws. It was the largest demonstration in the history of this country. But today the NRA has gotten bolder and more extreme than ever. They are simply out of control. There is no other way to put it. (Visit

And unfortunately, we can"™t count on Washington, DC to stand up for what"™s right. The NRA said if George Bush were elected President they would have an office in the White House -- and that is exactly what has happened.
So, if we want to get anything accomplished we have to let Washington hear from us. And these days, that's easy to do with the Internet. That's the point of this mail. To restart a movement of women across the country to stop the NRA.
So here are the NRA"™s top goals for this year:
1. Destroy Background Record Checks (Tiahrt Amendment).
The NRA wants to destroy records of gun purchases within 24 hours instead of the current 90-day law. They also want to block the ATF from requiring gun dealers like Bull's Eye (the dealer who armed the DC snipers) to take regular inventories of their firearms. This will cripple law enforcement.
2. End the Assault Weapons Ban.
Letting the ban expire will put military style rapid-fire assault weapons that have been banned for the last ten years back on the street.
3. Give Bad Gun Dealers Immunity.
This will give gun makers and dealers sweeping protection from lawsuits even negligent dealers like Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, where the DC snipers got their rifle. Families of the DC sniper victims would have their cases thrown out of court.
As you can see, the NRA"™s goals are senseless and dangerous to police, to children, and to our own families.
