Two of three New York teens accused of sexually assaulting teammates at an overnight football camp were sentenced to juvenile detention facilities Wednesday by a judge, according to relatives of the victims.
The police call what happened in August at the Pirates"™ five-day training camp a series of Abner Louima"“style sex attacks (though, curiously, no student interviewed by police has even mentioned Louima"™s name). They were carried out over several nights, with several victims, one of whom required surgery for his injuries. After the coaches went to sleep in their own cabin, at least three members of the team, ages 15, 16, and 17, allegedly rubbed heat-producing mineral ice on broomsticks, pinecones, and golf balls and used those items to penetrate at least three freshman players while the rest of the boys in the cabin all bore witness. The purported ringleader, according to police, was the lineman.
When the victims came forward, the team closed ranks. Kids who were said to have witnessed the attacks refused to talk, even though the longtime coach of the Pirates, Kevin McElroy"”Coach Mac to anyone who knows him"”warned them that the season would end if they didn"™t come forward. Instead, the victims were laughed at in the halls, called "ś******"ť and "śbroomstick boy."ť The superintendent, Thomas Caramore, shielded the school from inquiries at first. He told Pennsylvania police that he couldn"™t release information about a student without a subpoena. Nor did he suspend the three alleged perpetrators, and as a result, they were allowed to walk the hallways of Mepham High for nearly two weeks.
Ok why weren't these gentlemen tried as adults. You rape other kids with a bunch of instruments bad enough that one requires surgery and you go to a juvenille center?
I can't imagine my son doing this, or it happening to my son.
The boys that were raped got hammered because football season was cancelled what's wrong with people?

These boys have some serious mental issues to carry out some bizarre initiation like that! Man, I'd kill someone with my bare hands if they tried that on me!! [X(]
Like NYBowhunter, the only initiation that was done on my was during my USCG Yeoman school in Petaluma, CA. The guys grabbed a polaroid camera and snuck in and snapped a photo of me in the shower. Then passed the photo around all through the school.
I'm betting if the three victims were female, the penalties would have been alot harsher. For some insane reason, sex crimes against boys are often just not taken as seriously. Look at the case of the female teacher and her grade school student. She was in her thirties, he was, what, 12? She got a slap on the hand the first time, and put back where she was able to do it again. If the genders had been reversed, she never would have walked the first time. I even heard some guys snicker about it and make jokes!
The emotional damage done to these kids is the same, male or female. Probably even worse for boys in some ways. We really need to change things.

Crime scene? I'd make sure they never found any evidence.
I just read another article that stated a JV player was threatened by one of these thugs. "you better not sleep at camp and you better not tell" the kid told his Mom who went to the principal who let the varsity player attend the camp anyway. Her son was one of the players raped.
It took two weeks for these kids to get suspended. They used the time to make more threats against the kids that had been raped.
So the coach and principal knew there had been threats made and did nothing. The principal talked with the coach after talking with the Mom.
The coach could have made sure there was no hazings done before they left for camp. Running sprints all afternoon gets the point across, if I remember rightl. running ladders until you puke makes you think about stuff.
