Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default WMD's anyone???

Iraqi Official: Saddam Gives Info on Weapons, Funds

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) has given his U.S. captors information on hidden weapons and as much as $40 billion he may have seized while he was Iraq (news - web sites)'s president, an Iraqi official was quoted as saying on Monday.

"Saddam has confessed the names of people he told to keep the money and he gave names of those who have information on equipment and weapons warehouses," Iyad Allawi, a member of the U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council, told the London-based Asharq al-Awsat daily.

"The Governing Council is searching for $40 billion worth of funds seized by Saddam when he was in power and which has been deposited in Switzerland, ***an, Germany and other countries under the names of fictitious companies," Allawi said.

He said the council had asked international legal companies to track the money.

Allawi said interrogators were now focusing on whether Saddam -- arrested by U.S. forces this month and held at an undisclosed site -- had any links to militant groups.

"Interrogators are now focusing on the relationship between him and terrorist organizations and on funds paid to groups outside Iraq," Allawi told the newspaper.

It is not clear whether Saddam was ever behind ambushes that have killed at least 211 U.S. soldiers since Washington declared major combat over on May 1.

The capture of Saddam has not ended guerrilla activity in Iraq, which U.S. officials believe involves non-Iraqi militant Islamist guerrillas and Saddam loyalists.

I wonder what the Dem's, Lib's, and ultra right winger Bush Haters (read, Hip) will say about this one.

Why saddam and the Iraqi council must be lying of course. All intelligent liberals absolutely KNOW there aren't any WMD's, terrorist connections or anything wrong with saddam. And of course, we're no better off now that saddam has been captured.[:@][:@][:@] Having a different view or questioning why we do something can produce a greater understanding. Brain dead stupidity, however, is a permanent condition resulting in nothing more than further stupidity.

That article said Saddam may have fingered people who know where weapons stashes are. It did NOT state that they are weapons OF MASS DESTRUCTION. They could be guns, grenades and land mines for all we know.

I hope we do find WMD's though, even though the dems will simply go silent on it and attack Bush for wearing a tie that doesn't match or something (ie. find something else, however trivial, to attack while not apologizing to the President for criticizing him on WMD when he was right all along).

did you guys know that the U.S. did not in fact find Hussein?

It was Kurdish rebels, who then doped him up and left him for the U.S. soldiers to find.

Thats a good one. I think the fact that he was alive and armed sort of displaces that notion.

You can do a search elsewhere if you doubt the story.

http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1044641/posts

LONDON, (AFP) - Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was captured by US troops only after he had been taken prisoner by Kurdish forces, drugged and abandoned ready for American soldiers to recover him, a British Sunday newspaper said.

Saddam came into the hands of the Kurdish Patriotic Front after being betrayed to the group by a member of the al-Jabour tribe, whose daughter had been raped by Saddam's son Uday, leading to a blood feud, reported the Sunday Express, which quoted an unnamed senior British military intelligence officer.

The newspaper said the full story of events leading up to the ousted Iraqi president's capture on December 13 near his hometown of Tikrit in northern Iraq (news - web sites), "exposes the version peddled by American spin doctors as incomplete".

A former Iraqi intelligence officer, whom the Express did not name, told the paper that Saddam was held prisoner by a leader of the Kurdish Patriotic Front, which fought alongside US forces during the Iraq war, until he negotiated a deal.

The deal apparently involved the group gaining political advantage in the region.

An unnamed Western intelligence source in the Middle East told the Express: "Saddam was not captured as a result of any American or British intelligence. We knew that someone would eventually take their revenge, it was just a matter of time."
