As of June 30, 2003, several million Canadians will become instant criminals thanks to our federal Liberal government passing a new firearms law that came into effect in 1998 that was based on misrepresentation of Royal Canadian Mounted Police statistics. RCMP Commissioner Murray protested that his department's statistics were being distorted, forged and misrepresented. Unfortunately, our own government ignored his protest and they continued to misuse these statistics to persuade Members of Parliament to vote in favor of the new Firearms Act. Canadians must understand that this legislation allows any peace officers to enter any Canadian home without a warrant.
Current statistics indicate 70% - 80% non-compliance with licensing and registration. The government continues to lie to the Canadian Public by spin-doctoring the facts. A December 2002 poll showed that 93% of gun owners would not fully comply with the Firearms Act. In spite of this startling statistic, the federal Liberal government refuses to make the necessary adjustments and cancel registration. The government is now wavering on their so called grace period yet nothing seems concrete. It's the typical 'Let's treat them like criminals and scare them into registering, then let's extend the registration deadline
It is unfortunate for those who wish to comply with the law are unable to get registration forms due to the bureaucratic bungling and technical incompetence. This whole system is pathetic and a technological failure. Phone lines are jammed: 1 800 731-4000 (toll free in North America) and there is no real security with internet registration. Website URL to register online is also next to impossible to access:

"There are some problems with some of the people whose names may have disappeared as a result of the crash Dec. 30 of the system," stated Canadian Solicitor General Wayne Easter in June of 2003. The government"™s database crashed in late December, however, it took over 5 months before they would acknowledge that they had a crash and they do not know how many registration records they have lost. Typical of the government to withhold information and with less than 1 month to the grace deadline inform the public that they don't know what they lost.
LUFA
www.lufa.ca encourages everyone to phone 1 800-731-4000 (8am - 8pm EST) and confirm that the phone lines are operating. LUFA also request that everyone check the link and see for yourself if it works:
https://secure.ecom.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca/e...nguage=English We encourage everyone to click on the above link to see errors or how long it takes for the registration page to load. From December 29, 2002 until December 31, 2002 the government"™s website to register had crashed, resulting in Canadians unable to register.
The most appalling aspect of this issue is that firearms registration was promised to cost only $2 million dollars to the Canadian public when it was recently announced by the Canadian Auditor General that it will now cost over $1 billion dollars. That is a 50,000% plus cost overrun. We estimate an additional minimum of a $1 billion more if Canadians agree to comply but they won"™t. This money would have been better spent on cancer research or MRI machines.
LUFA invites the international community to take notice of this oppression by the Canadian Government of the Canadian people. If you are a journalist, a gun owner, a human rights activist or someone looking for a home in a democratic country think again. Canada doesn"™t fit the bill. LUFA encourages all interested parties to participate.
See for yourself, test the following and keep testing, especially on June 30, 2003, to see how pathetic the government is with giving Canadians access to comply.
Australia, United Kingdom have already implemented nonsense Firearms legislation and subsequently the United Nations named the UK and Australia as the top 2 worst countries for serious crime offences.
