Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default NRA Broke?

I was flipping channels last night and caught something on TV about them being 100 million in the red. Anyone know anything about it?

Don't know anything about it and really don't care either to be honist. The bench warmers get too mush money anyway so it wouldn't surprize me at all.

I saw the same thing, and was just as taken aback as you. What's going on with money management there?

I did not see or hear anything like this. One would think that an organization of this size would have pretty good money management skills.

In fact, I was pretty excited when, the other day there was an article that stated something to the effect that the NRA was contemplating the start up of their own radio/television station. I think that would have had great potential.

Hmm, well being a member and only paying $25 I wonder how in the world they cloud stay in the black, considering they send me mail by the pile. Postage, paper, printing, and labor aren't cheap. That in itself is enough to make an org. go broke.

It will be interesting to see what happens. If it's true, the libbies will go nuts and throw a party.

I haven't seen or read anything either, I did a search on google and the only reference I found was from the Violence Policy Center (as bad as the Brady bunch) from 1997 when they claimed that the NRA was "Technically" insolvent and $50,000,000 in the red. Now I'm not much of an accountant so it is difficult for me to understand how one can be "technically" insolvent with that kind of debt load. Either you is or you aint.
As far as income for any organization such as the NRA, individual memberships are scarcely the major source of revenue. They also rely on endowments and donations from individuals over the course of time and the advertising they sell in the various magazines they publish. With 4 million members, a 100 million dollar debt could conceivably be wiped out with a one time donation of only $25.00 per member so I'd really like to find out more about what is going on.

If that is true and they can't get things lined out we are in trouble as gun owners.

If they are the Brady Bunch, Comrad Hillory, Diann Feinstien, et all will go nuts in trying to take away our guns. Since they are the biggest voice out there fighting to keep your guns in your gun safe everyone had better hope not. And if not a member better think about joining and helping them to fight for you.

Dislike them if you will but they are about the only reason we still have the right to own guns and there demise would certainly be the demise of gun ownership. They are the voice that keeps the libbies at bay. God help us if they can't .

I am a life member who contributes what I can when I can. I support and agree with the cause. But I have to agree with Txcowboy. I am sick of being asked for contributions 3 to 5 times a month. Last night I received a call from the NRA (at dinner time) about buying Wayne LaPierre new book to contribute to local library's. They asked me to purchase 7 copy's (ya right). I did purchase 1 copy for myself that I will give to my local library when I am finished.

Dont get me wrong. I feel all would be lost without organizations like the NRA. But think of the tv/radio/magazine adds they could run with the money they would save by asking me for money 1 time a month instead of 5 times.
