Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Top Vatican official blasts treatment of Saddam

Can you believe it? A top official at the Vatican has gone PC over the videotape everyone has seen with the doctor checking out Saddam after first being captured. He says he felt pity and compassion for Saddam, since he was "treated like a cow" by the doctor. I am Catholic, but don't give any credence to absurd statements like these from the Vatican. Between the treatment of sexual predator priests and now this, I am currently disgusted with the Catholic Church leadership! I realize that one official doesn't represent the Vatican as a whole, but this is ridiculous! The mass murderer of hundred of thousands was treated humanely, and this guy suggests otherwise!

I know that I am gonna catch it over this, but here goes.

The powers to be at the Ctholic church should keep their collective noses where they belong!

Spreading the word of god.

I don`t need to hear the popes opinion on world matters unless he is speaking in a private setting.

Maybe time would be more wisely spent taking care of that little child molestation problem that he seems to have going on.

Where were the catholic priest when saddam was dropping people in the plastic shredder. Given the current feelings toward catholic priest and their bosses, they ought to keep their mouth shut.

I could not add anything to these. They are all right on the money.

What you are citing is Catholic Doctrine.

Forgive all.

The Vatican is not wrong. Read some Catholic Doctrine, it's actually very strict and very interesting.

- No abortion
- No divorce (hence the Anglican church and the mess they're in)
- No murder/killing ( I have a problem with the no death penalty issue but i'm not the moral leader)

We saved your ass many times -- most recently was Ronald Reagan and the fall of the Soviet Union, you don't believe me? Look at the vatican papers that have been released, CATHOLICS HATE COMMUNISM, and the vatican worked with the U.S. to take down communism in the U.S.S.R.

Trust me, it's a silent good force. A force that has been persecuted since the time of Christ and never once whined. ... (like others we know)

I haven't followed the uproar caused by these comments too closely but from what I read early on, these are the comments of a single Cardinal. I don't know if he needs the permission of the Pope before he makes statments like this or not. Could this be like one of the infamous "Leaks" we all know and love so much from our various leaders? Is this the feeling held in general by the Vatican or is it only the opinion of an individual? The Catholic church, by and large, does more good than it does harm. Perhaps this guy is the Vaticans Tom Daschle or Ted Kennedy clone.
