Having served in the Armed Forces during a different era and experiencing a lack of support (for the most part) from people you want to count on back home, it makes me that much prouder of our current members who are doing such a tremendous job and sacrificing for us. I live fairly close to Ft. Hood and our little town frequently sees convoys stop at a cafe or convenience store on the way to San Antonio. Every opportunity I get I will walk up to a table full of soldiers and thank them for their service. It doesn't matter if they just returned from battle or about to leave....I want them to feel good about serving their country. I can tell by their reaction that they really appreciate the comments, even if they do act very humble.
I have "adopted" service members in the past and sent care packages and other things. The DOD provides lots of opprtunities to show your gratitude....many you can access from

Another way to send a personal show of support is at

What better time of the year to show some fine Americans some care and love and appreciation? They are fantastic!
