What is wrong with this picture.
My daughters are at home with the flu, so during lunch I ran by the store to get med., juice, and the likes for them. While there, a man in front of me had two baskets full. The first basket was full of Beer and wine coolers, the other was full of chips, dip, and other party type finger foods. The man payed cash for the beer, over $100 worth. The Chips and dip, you and I paied for. He used his welfare card to pay for the chips and dip. It was over 90 dollars worth. [:@]
Is it me, or is something seriously wrong. I dont think welfare money was intended for throwing parties. [:@]
While I vent, let me add one from last week. A lady, at the same store, used here welfare card to get 75 dollars cash. I didnt think you could get cash out of your welfare?[:@]

Burnie! This is among my biggest pet peeves!
I shop at one of those "bag-your-own-groceries" grocery stores. Sometimes it seems like I am the only person there who pays for my own groceries!
I know there are some people who get public assistance for legitimate reasons, due to needs caused by no fault of their own, but I don't remember the last time I saw one of them in real life.
I am so sick of seeing moron after parasitic moron load the conveyor belt up with chips, Pepsi, and every Hostess product known to man, only to whip out that "Oregon Trails" card and have us pay for it so they can use their own money for the 2 cases of Bud in their cart!
And what is the deal with those stinkin' cards? Okay, I realize it is probably cheaper for the government to use that system, but they have completely taken away one of the major incentives to get off of food stamps----the embarrassment of having to use them. Now, you can just pretend it's a bank debit card, and nobody in line has to know that they are the ones paying for your crap.
The entire system needs to be changed. There needs to be a "Welfare Store". If a person is getting public assistance, that is where they need to be required to shop. At this store, they would be able to use the money we give them every month to buy good, healthy food. Also, household items like toilet paper, detergents, shampoo, etc. NO beer! No total garbage foods. The employees of the store would also be welfare recipients. They would be taught everything from stocking shelves and being a cashier to managing and purchasing, thereby aquiring skills needed to get out and support themselves.
Things have got to change.[:@]

I know a girl with six kids..husband has been in prison for awhile, she struggles her butt off but refuses to apply for assistance..she's too proud. I tell her there is nothing wrong with it, do it so you can feed the kids. The people like mentioned above give the assistance programs a bad rep and decent folk are a bit reluctant to jump onboard worried what others might think sometimes.
Hip, you are right on the money with this one. I worked at Safeway for 7 years and noticed a lot of similar circumstances occur. Hntngirl, in CA, we still use food stamps although that never seems to embarrass the parasites, just the decent people who won't be on welfare for long anyway.

I can relate. My dad was a deadbeat dad. He was an abusive Alcoholic. My mom
worked her butt off making ends meet. She too refused government
assistance. I have two brothers and two sisters. We didn"™t have it very
easy.

Got ya a little ralled up. I agree with the idea of a welfare store. I had always thought the way to cure the problem would be to pay people to investiated each case. Id rather pay someone to do a job, than to keep throwing money at the problem. I will agree, You have a very good Idea. I had not ever thought of a welfare store. I think that would work better than my idea. Give each case an account at these stores. Make them use there welfare for what it is intended, gettiing the kids something to eat, not daddies beer. I guess it could be rapped as well, go to the welfare store for your food, spend your own money on the beer. [:@] At least with a welfare store they couldnt take out cash.

Unbelievable, makes me so angry when I hear things like this! I do think there are so many legitimate reasons out there that people need a little help, like the woman that Hip mentioned. But a$$holes like this guy ruin it for so many people who do need that assistance. I can't stand the idea of the welfare state. What I can stand is the idea of assistance for those who need it, truly need it, and the idea of a work ethic and getting a job and contributing to society. Urrggghhh!
Oh yes the Lone Star Card.[:@] I've got a story that just happened to my wife and I a few weeks ago.
We were at Kroger's (grocery store) and there was a woman in front of us in line. She was probably in her early 60's and was dressed as nicely or nicer than us. She had two rainbow trout fillets that were about $10 each and she also had (what my wife said were) expensive very nice rolls, and a box of grourmet croutons(sp). The total was over $30 and she whipped out her Lone Star card and paid for it. My wife and I just looked at each other in amazement. We paid quickly just so we could see what kind of vehicle she got into. Sure enough she walked out to a 1-2 yr old very nice Buick grandma type car. I was pissed. Buying trout fillets on my nickel and driving a $25,000+ car? I don't think so. I wanted to follow her and see what kind of house she lived in. $10 says it's a heck of alot nicer than mine.
Guys and gals lets face it, the vast vast majority of people on any type of welfare are just lazy and don't really "need" it. [:@]
