Just heard a report on Fox new. There are some groups who want to ban the crosses along the hiways that mark the spot where People were killed in traffic accident. Get This. They say it Violates the damn church and state issue. In my 60 years here on this planet, this is the most stupid, idiotic thing That I have ever heard. Are we going to have to hide our churches soon so they can't be seen by the public? How about camo paint. Do we need to take the cross of of the churhes? I have about had it with these morons who must have to much time on thier hands.
I haven't heard about banning them because of political reasons but I have heard arguements that they are a distraction. I could care less about it either way, but I sometimes wonder how a person can get away with erecting a monument on public land.

RE: How Far can it go
I read that last night. It is only in a few states. It isn"™t as bad as it sounds.
They have been removed because of a law that prevents any thing from
accumulating on the road side. Its a law intended to keep the roads safe. It
will get changed. In Texas they have fixed the law to allow the crosses. I
can see the other states following.

I consider it litter. But them again I have not lost a family member on the road either. I think legaly you can't do it here but no one will stop you either.
Memorials to deceased loved ones belong in cemetaries, not on the side ot the road. They look ugly, the road crews that mow the ditches have to go around them leaving a big patch of tall weeds which looks crappy, or they don't see them and run them over, possibly damaging expensive equipment that you and I paid for. Then there are the ones that people insist on putting mylar balloons, reflective pinwheels, and other shiny crap on them which makes them a blinding distraction. Especially at night when the flickering reflections look like eyes, or just flat blind you when your bright headlights catch them the right way.
In my opinion, I think they look fine on the road, whatever helps the families get over their loss. Plus, as a younger guy, I think they serve as a somber reminder to alot of people to not drink and drive, watch out for drunks, etc....
Marking the spot where someone departed this life is one of man's oldest customs...ancient in fact.
I think that it is a small thing to turn away from if it somehow offends you.
As for those that want the crosses down...
It seems like all the decent, normal, hard-working people in America are becoming numb. They are like someone that has been mugged so many times, he just automatically puts his hands up to make it easier for the mugger to empty his pockets.
There is no place in the Constitution where it states there should be a seperation of church and state. Nowhere.
The state shall not establish a church or religion is a far cry from "separation".
This country was founded on a belief in God by God fearing men who were not afriad to mention God in their writings. Which god is an entirely different arguement. It is when the state attempts to identify or dictate or endores a God that it treads on "establishing".
The greatest concern of those crosses is that of the guy who cuts the grass and brush. As long as the are far enough back from the roadway and of limited size or construction so as not to distract or obstruct drivers they are of little concern.

RE: How Far can it go
If someone dies of a heart attack in wal-mart do they put a cross in the middle of the floor? When someone dies on a piece of construction machinary do they put a cross in the middle of the seat? When some one dies in a plane do they put a cross in the seat? If we don't put crosses on EVERY single place of someones death, then why do we feel the need to put them on the highway?
I think the problem is that folks put the cross out there, and then never look at it again, so it ends up just being more garbage for someone to clean.
