Default New discovery for high cholesterol.

We have an annual health evauation where I work, and my cholesterol has been slowly creeping up each year. It is now at a point where I have to do something different. I started researching and came across this web page. This sounds VERY promising for the near future.

This is the web address. The link feature doesn't seem to be working. You'll have to copy and paste it into your address bar.

http://content.health.msn.com/conten...e/76/90129.htm

Maybe I can keep from having a heart attack long enough for them get this new technology perfected.

Thanks for that article! I have low cholesterol, but also low GOOD cholesterol. My father and two of his brothers died from a heart attack, so my eyes are opened to these new advancements.

Stickemup, DougMD.

I also sufferred from extremely bad cholesterol readings, was severely overweight, high triglycerides etc.

I recently started Atkins (been following this diet for 5 months now) have lost just shy of 50 lbs, my cholesterol readings are all significantly improved, my triglyerides are where they need to be etc.

on a side note, my mother was a type 2 diabetic and since she has followed this plan she is no longer diabetic and all her blood work readings have improved dramatically, (not to mention she has lost 100 lbs)

This seems to be a very common result of following a low carb eating style.

Check out this website for good infomation... https://atkins.com

Check out some of the research on this. It may be worth changing your eating habits to ensure your health.

Congrats MdBowBender!

I too have lost almost 30 lbs on Atkins, and just watching what I eat.

I think a lot of people would be in better shape if they would just put
down that bag of Cheeto's, get there fat butt off the couch, or turn of the
tv, or computer and get a little exercise.

It's working for me.

Tell your Mom Congrats also.

Way to go mdbowbender. I'm doing the same thing and I've lost 28 pounds and feel much better. I been eating beef and venison like there's no end to it and my cholesterol is going down. Thanksgiving was tough, I got five sisters that can sure cook some good food.[8D]

Oregon, Rockytop,

Thanks for the kind words, Every day with this way of eating amazes me. I never feel as if I am starving or have to eat something right now. Salad's taste better than desserts and I eat more of the good stuff than I ever have before (Venison, Beef, Fish, etc)

I am posting a link to an Atkins Diet online community that is an excellent support... some absolutely incredible recipe ideas etc.

I took a recipe of that board for making low carb pumpkin pie.... it was amazing..

The other nice thing about people doing atkins is that they tend to be people who are either pro hunting or at least hunting tolerant. You most certainly won't find many vegetarian, tree hugging, peta members

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/

additionally the atkins website that I posted earlier is a great resources for recipes as well.

MdBowBender,
Thanks for the links and congratulations to you and your mom on losing the weight! The Atkins diet will be my main New Year's resolution. I'm cutting back on eating in general right now and starting to cut out some of the carbs. I'll be going on it very seriously after the new year. I've also been exercising more and plan to get into a routine.

Having children has really slowed down the amount of exercise I've been getting, but my youngest is now getting old enough to start allowing me a little more freedom. I've always exercised A LOT even into my thirties until the kids came along so I've never really had to diet much.

Oh well. I had a great run for 38 years and I enjoyed every bite of it. I've never really had to diet, but now it's time to pay the piper.[&o] It could be worse. I could have found out I had high cholesterol AFTER the heart attack.

OK,. all you people on the Atkins, me too !!!!!
Since April I've lost about 35 pounds, my cholestorel has dropped like a rock and the good and bad cholesterol is just where it needs to be since my Sept. physical !!!

BTW, any body on the atkins hit a stretch where you didn't lose any weight for several months ??? Thats where I am right now. I will lose a pound or two here and there, but no significant weight lose. Its got me baffled a little !

Sswpriz,

It's quite common to hit stretches where your body will resist additional weight loss. Most commonly these are body weights where you stayed at a long time while you were gaining the weight. Best remedys are as follows.

1) Water, 80 oz +20 oz for every 10lbs you want to lose, I drink a MINIMUM of 120-140 oz per day. pure water only.

2) If your in ongoing weight loss, Drop back down to the INDUCTION level of carbs and allowable foods for 1-2 weeks, this will put you back in hard Ketosis and get things going again.

3) exercise, exercise, exercise. Hey its hunting season folks.. get out there and do some walking, stalking, etc and get some, the more the better.

http://www.atkinsbythebook.com is an excellent forum to ask questions of highly experienced Atkins people, they will definetly point you in the right direction.
