Default TARGET STORES

I received this in an email. I left the Viet Nam vets name out as I wasn't sure he would want his name all over the internet. I for one will never go to another Target store. They suck!![:@][>:]

Subject: Vietnam Vets

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET management: "Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social
action groups, gay &lesbian causes, and education."

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really wrong at
this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. That's their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their stores. And during the recent Iraq
deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while they were on
military service. Then as I dig further, TARGET is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET can not support American Veterans, then why should I and my family support their stores by spending our hard
earned American dollars and to have their profits sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be today?

Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.

I honestly did not know Target was french owned. If all of this stuff checks out, I for one will not ever shop at target again.

I know this email has been around for awhile, both with and without changes made to it. It sounds like it may not be completely accurate and there may be more to the story.........

Yep it's only partly true and we had a huge debate on this last year here on this board. What it all boils down to is this....... Target as a company decided exactly what types of charities and organizations they will support. Anyone who owns a business can tell you that they get flooded with calls from all kinds of people, orgs., charities, etc, all begging for money and a company the size of Target has to have a full time staff to do nothing but handle those requests. Therefore as a company, they set policy as to what charities they support so the standard line can be "sorry, you do not meet our area of giving". It's that simple. Vets aren't in their defined policy. It doesn't mean they don't like vets, they just had to decide who to support and vets weren't one of the groups. It doesn't mean they are against vets though.

If a deaf children's charity calls you and asks for money and you don't give them a donation, it doesn't mean you don't care about deaf children or support what the charity is doing.

It seems that our veteran could of tried to use the grant application process as required, then if he was denied he might have a more legitimate complaint. My thoughts on Target is that they are antihunting. As has been noted already, this has been discussed before. Has anyone ever noticed the sporting goods section of the store? Nothing for sale there that would help a hunter in the field. Is this a oversight by the store? I don't think so! It's a deliberate decision by home office to not provide these products based on their disdain for hunting and hunters.
I don't shop there.

If they support gay and lesbian causes and not vets, they can kiss it.

Does anybody know for sure if they are a French company?

They wouldn't let our youth football league collect moneyfor our fund raiser. I have never been back. We didn't want Target to give us anything, just let our kids stand out side in their uniforms and collect donations. They have the right to do this and the 240 families inour league have the right to spend our money at stores that support our community.

Reading this has doubled my ill thought about their corporation.

gay &lesbian causes,
This story has been around awhile. It has been vehemently denied by TARGET (naturally!!), especially the "gay and lesbian causes" allegation. The whole story is basically untrue....

I don't know if they are basically anti-gun or anti-hunting or not, but last year, I did manage to buy several decent gun cases in the one in Hagerstown, MD.
