Update--I emailed google and got this response. I'm not sure I can buy their explanation.

Thank you for your note about our search results.
The particular case you refer to is the result of the dynamic nature of
the Internet and Google's reliance on the web's link structure as part of
our search calculation. The order and contents of Google search results
are completely automated. No one hand picks a particular result for a
given search query. Nor does Google ever insert jokes or send messages by
changing the order of results. Occasionally, when a particular website is
the subject of public attention, other sites begin linking to it. This may
elevate its importance as gauged by our ranking software, which assigns a
PageRank value based in part on who links to a given page.
Higher ranking in Google results may lead to more awareness, which may
lead to more links and so on. One side effect of not using an editorial
viewpoint to determine the ranking of results is that anomalies like this
occasionally occur. We view such occasions as opportunities for us to
learn more about how the web works and how to improve our algorithms for
all searches in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to write to us.
Regards,
The Google Team

I'm relatively certain that Googles explanation is pretty accurate.
Google, and many other word search companies make their livings by advertising. If you were to type in a "key word" and then click on one of the resulting web sites...Then Google, or whichever search engine you were using,,,would get an amount of money. Something to the tune of a penny to a nickle. If, that is, they are a paid advertiser.
There are also companies, that for a sum of money, will access your web site enough times to make YOURS the most frequently accessed site using various key words.
As a result, most new companies use names that are "not" common. The few times that their name is used on the web results in their name being a "common" site visited.
All that, translates to; By liberals consistantly using the term "miserable failure" when referencing George Bush in their BBS comments, has made George Bush synonomous with miserable failure in the eyes of computer searches.
It is what it is, and no more.
It's time for a free plug for my advertising...
Type in the word RoseLoe Motel on any search engine.
Because my business has an odd name, and there are only two of them in the country...By default,,,mine will come up.
Conversly, when two words are connected so often...The results seen in this thread will come up.
CalHunter, I got exactly the same letter in response from Google.
I'll bet that they get this same type of question on a dayly basis and have made a form letter for response. I tend to believe the letter for the most part.
