You know, I live in a small deep East Tx town with a very very large Catholic population. I am a Southern Baptist and I have never, I repeat never, heard anyone say anything negative or against catholics? Until I came to this board several years ago, I'd never heard of "Catholic hating" and the only people I've heard mention it here are Catholics.LOL!!!
All kidding aside, I'm not denying that such a thing exists because we know much of mainstream liberal America hates anyone of a Christian religion. I guess it's just odd that I've never heard of it in "real" life.

It is true that many protestants have a big "tiff" with the catholic church, and I think they are not always fully learned on an issue before they make a proclamation. There are problems with protestants as well in their interpretation of "straightforward" scripture. Why do we have so many denominations? Do not each think that THEY have it the right way, and the others mis-interpret??? hmmmm... When Christ returns, it is going to definately be a very interesting day, and I bet He will be ashamed at that lack of studying that his so called "followers" actually did. Not just reading, but studying. I am not trying to be hypocritical, because I definately haven't kept up to par, but I am trying to get better.

I don't think it's a matter of hate and loathing, as much as it's an intolerance for those who thump on the bible and proclaim that their way is the only way.
I can only speak for myself here...I am what you would consider "non denominational"...I believe what I believe and I have a certain amount of personal satisfaction in my own little personal relationship with what I believe to be a Higher power.
I'm not so sure that things would have been different if the person or topics that you are refering to would have been an anti-hunter with an attitude, a racist with an attitude or a greenpeace activist with an attitude.
The only difference is...This was a holy roller with an attitude.
I will admit however, it made for some interesting reading while he was here...There was probably more posts made in the last two weeks than there have been in the last six months. the only difficulty is; It makes it rather hard to debate any given issue when the subject of God is presented over and over.

I've had this done to me, but never by a Catholic! My experience with Catholics has been that they pretty much keep their religious orientation to themselves! It's generally some of the more "far-out" Protestant groups who really get obnoxious about this.
