Default Tis the Season......

What kind of person are you?

Do you enjoy the most joyous time of the year? The putting up the lights, the christmas tree, all of the christmas music, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, Santa Claus and buying gifts for everyone?

OR are you just the opposite (scrooge)?

I do the above, not really into the Christian stuff anymore. I have nothing against Christians and hope they have just as much fun and spiritual pleasure with there believes. I don' t like the shopping part, but I do have fun being with family and friends. We usually drive around and look at decorations also, it' s nice to see people comming together in this country for whatever reason. There is bad crap happeneing everyday and if a set of lights and some decorations can help spread a little joy then I am all for it.

I dont care what some say, I love this time of the year. Yes is has been
adulterated, but I feel the meaning is what you put into it. Lets face it, we
live in a free enterprise system. To get ahead, one has to take all the
advantages as possible. Industries put a lot of bank in this time of the year.
People are more willing to spend. Why do you think the day after
Thanksgiving is called black friday. Not because its a bad day, but because
most buisniesses move from the red to the black. I ignore the things that
take away from the meaning, but will also hold onto the things that give it
special meaning. Like a Christmas tree. I know it is not of the Christian
belief, but the memories it brings, and will provide in the future is worth it.
When I was a kid, I loved to decorate the Christmas tree. As a parent I
love to watch my kids decorate the Christmas tree. Same as for Santa (St
Nicoles for some). Like I said, it is what you make of it. If you set around
bitter, what does that accomplish? Nothing but a bad attitude. I enjoy all
the season has to bring, and yes, I do not lose the meaning of Christmas.

Lets face it, if we Held true to all the old Christian beliefs we would have to
bring back prostitution, quit taking baths, torture people into submission,
etc, etc,.. Like I have said in the past, religion is not for the blind follower,
one needs to study, ask elders, and use some common sense.

And for all of those who are the Scrooges Merry Christmas and God Bless

As a Family holiday Christmas take second place to Thanksgiving for me. This is the time I give as much as I can to groups like the Salvation Army who don' t get rich off of being a charity and give people a reason to say thanks.
Regardless of religious affiliation Thanksgiving is a day of thanks to your god for a mulitude of reasons between that god and you. It is universal.

Now having said that, I enjoy the giving part of the Christmas holiday and do contemplete and celebrate the religious aspects as well.
I enjoy buying gifts for my wife and grand daughter and for my adult sons.
I really enjoy buying a lot of stuff for Toys For Tots and the Christmas Tree card gifts one selects off a tree at the department store and purchases a gift for some one in need.
I think I do this as much for myself as for the person who will recieve the gift. I' ll never see those strangers faces but I know that not only will they be happy to get a gift, but the person delievering the gift and the parent there to see their child with that gift will have all had a better day. It makes me feel good that Im fortunate enough to help make this happen.
Im very lucky I quess.

I have something else to add, We just put up the decorations at Church, and yes that includes a Christmas Tree.

Have you noticed what the name of the tree is Christmas Tree. Ill just say, we Christians have stolen the tradition, and were not giving it back. he he he

I enjoy parts of it, but for the most part I love online shopping, and of course the cookies. I should take the Christian part more seriously this year.

I love it!!! This is absolutly my favorite time of year. From Thanksgiving to the New Year just seems like a blur of family activities, parties, food, fellowship, beautiful weather, beautiful lights and decorations and everyone seems to be in a better mood.

My wife and I spend the Thanksgiving holiday doing a little shopping, buying a Christmas tree, getting it up, decorating the house, and putting up the Christmas lights outside. What can be better than that. I' m sitting in my living room on my laptop right now, in the dark, except for the glow of the lights on our tree. It' s gorgeous.

I' m not a big shopper and I' ve always dreaded it in the past but now I do almost all my shopping online, so I kinda enjoy it for a change. I wish this time of year would come more than once a year.

Great thread Johnny. God bless and Merry CHRISTmas.

Birth or conception of Christ? Since the weather is getting colder, I thought I would stir the coals and try to relight a fire.

Thats just fine, it is all those wonderful people like yourself that can' t let a good thing go. no matter what it is called today it is always good to see the old ways continued.[:-]

The wife and I will be out in the woods this coming Saturday looking for that " perfect" tree.
( I better look for my saw )
