Any of the conservation groups pages will point you to some pro-hunting information. Also, contact fish and game/wildlife departments, and do some searches on the web to see what you come up with. You can also e-mail me, I would be glad to help you. And by the way, welcome to the board!

I hunt for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, it is an essential part of conservation. Canadian geese are tearing apart their breeding grounds up north, deer and elk rip apart mountainsides, etc... Anywhere you go to see alot of wild game, there is always hunting in the area. Hunting is very healthy for populations of animals because it ensures that mass starvation will not occur, and it maintains healthy carrying capacities for various areas. For instance, Colorado has about 60,000 elk over it' s carrying capacity currently, and the DOW of course turns to hunters to handle these problems.

Second, I hunt to be outside, walking around, not observing nature but rather participating, by being a predator. When I am walking through the woods with my rifle, or sitting in a duck blind, or anything, I am no different from a coyote or a fox, except that I am armed to make up for my lack of animal' s senses. The great outdoors are the most incredible place in the world, and even if I shoot nothing, being out there is a great day in and of itself.

Third, I hunt for the meat. Wild game meat is the most nutritious thing you can put in your body. High in protein, low in fat, no steroids added, nothing. Just plain protein and some BBQ and I am good to go.

just go to www.yahoo.com and do a search for conservation related articles and department' s of wildlife. They are the most informative. Also, www.rmef.org www.ducks.org www.nwtf.org should have some good information.

I hunt for probably the oldest reason known.....meat. I do not trust store bought meat, too many chemicals, atleast with wild game I know what I' m getting. For those of us that have high cholesterol, blood pressure, etc... wild game can be good. Store bought beef is one of the worst things for some ill' s. Others have also mention many other good reasons to hunt, population control, enjoying the out doors, etc... Another small note, deer are one of the most threatening animals to humans, more people die from deer then they do from shark, bear, wolf, tiger etc... So conservation is needed.

In most parts of the earth, the wild predators, which once kept prey species in check, have been eliminated by MAN!! Just look how rabbits have overrun Australia. and how deer have taken over New Zealand!! Therefore, it has become OUR responsibility to do this. Hunting is one of the best ways to do so. It is much more economical and effective than any of the methods the " greens" have proposed (like sterilizing deer & coyotes, etc.).

You can get some great info, historical memos and hunting statistics, from the US Department of the Interior and the Fish and Game Service.

http://www.doi.gov

http://www.fws.gov

You can usually access some good info also through your state DEP, DEC, DNR (or whatever your state calls it' s conservation/hunting department). Through the state, you can contact both law enforcement and biologists for raw data and any hunting opinions/surveys they may have access to or conducted themselves.

Other than that, mostly you will find a variety of opinions, both pro and con. For a speech, you may also want to access some anti-hunting sites for a contrasting option of what you present---I find this sometimes helps re-focus the listeners, halfway through, for longer talks.
