Thanks for the kind words. I' ve been flooded before, but nothing to this extent. In fact, this is the first time that I actually saw it happen.
As the stream/creek/river/ ocean descended upon my place, I actually saw rocks the size of basket balls rolling across my yard and damming up in one spot. By the time I realized what was happening, I had just enought time to let folks know it was time to bail.
Whithin three minutes things went from a mere heavy rain to four feet submerged.
With a little assistance from a back hoe and a front end loader, the water was re-routed to it' s original path not long before I made the post last night.
The water knew it was whipped and made a rapid exit out of the front doors of the guest rooms.(the back doors and patio' s was my down fall)
I could say that the quantity of mud was amazing, OR, I might even say that I am suprised at how quickly the water went back down...But I' m really not suprised or amazed at either...What I AM truely suprised and amazed at is how many crawdads showed up for the party. The things are crawling everywhere!
I have never seen more than one or two a year here, all of a sudden I have a schmorgasboard of cajun cooking going on. In short order I rounded up a five gallon bucket full of ' em, and it' s been a " boiled Crawdads and beer" night here at Castle Rock!!!
I' m also quite humbled by the folks who showed up to help me start getting the mud and muck out of my buildings...It is, for the lack of a better word, my competition...Folks who own lodging businesses here in my town.
I took a butt load of pictures, sometime in the next week or two I' ll get them developed and see what I can do about getting a few of them posted on here.
While the damage is quite extensive, It' s all just " stuff" ...Fortunately no one was hurt, and it can all be replaced. I should be back in business by late muzzle loading season.
