Default A Bad Day At Castle Rock

Just when I thought this was gonna be the best deer hunting season in three years, The weather Gods dealt a mighty blow to my humble little abode.

Flash flood does not even come close to describing the torrent of water that rolled down off of the mountain this morning. Things were doing well untill a bunch of rocks broke loose and dammed up the stream that runs next to my house. The stream, which was more a major river at the time, backed up and hung a sharp left turn right into the back of my motel.

The damage is beyond words.

Damn.

Hey, I am sorry to hear that man. That' s a tough spot to be in I am sure, though I cannot relate to a natural disaster of that magnitude. I hope that you can get everything squared away and back to normal as fast as possible. Good luck, blessings to you and yours in the future.

Dave, sorry to hear that, there is nothing messier to clean up than mud and water and the mud gets packed into places you don' t even think of.
If there' s anything I can do to help, give me a holler, I' m only a little over 300 miles from you which isn' t all that far.

Sorry to hear about that Dave. It must truly be bad, your not a complainer.

Was that closing meant as a pun?

Thanks for the kind words. I' ve been flooded before, but nothing to this extent. In fact, this is the first time that I actually saw it happen.

As the stream/creek/river/ ocean descended upon my place, I actually saw rocks the size of basket balls rolling across my yard and damming up in one spot. By the time I realized what was happening, I had just enought time to let folks know it was time to bail.

Whithin three minutes things went from a mere heavy rain to four feet submerged.

With a little assistance from a back hoe and a front end loader, the water was re-routed to it' s original path not long before I made the post last night.

The water knew it was whipped and made a rapid exit out of the front doors of the guest rooms.(the back doors and patio' s was my down fall)

I could say that the quantity of mud was amazing, OR, I might even say that I am suprised at how quickly the water went back down...But I' m really not suprised or amazed at either...What I AM truely suprised and amazed at is how many crawdads showed up for the party. The things are crawling everywhere!

I have never seen more than one or two a year here, all of a sudden I have a schmorgasboard of cajun cooking going on. In short order I rounded up a five gallon bucket full of ' em, and it' s been a " boiled Crawdads and beer" night here at Castle Rock!!!

I' m also quite humbled by the folks who showed up to help me start getting the mud and muck out of my buildings...It is, for the lack of a better word, my competition...Folks who own lodging businesses here in my town.

I took a butt load of pictures, sometime in the next week or two I' ll get them developed and see what I can do about getting a few of them posted on here.

While the damage is quite extensive, It' s all just " stuff" ...Fortunately no one was hurt, and it can all be replaced. I should be back in business by late muzzle loading season.

Christine,,,Thanks for the offer. All that can be done is pretty much done.

With the assistance of a few neighbors and friends and a few outside contractors, followed up by a few days of the housekeepers doing all the detail work in the guest rooms, it' s just a waiting game now.

That waiting game being;...Waiting for everything to dry.

I know that you got some of this water in your area also. There were flash floods in quite a wide area. I feel fortunate that all I lost was some furnishings, carpet and revenue. A few folks lost their lives.

There are a few cases of flooding in the county where folks cars got washed off the road, and while the folks got out...They still ain' t yet found their vehicles.

Coastie...Thanks for calling and offering your help. While many on here don' t know you, I hope I do not embarrass you by letting everyone here know what a stand up guy you are.

VC, I should be good to go starting tommorrow, I look foward to speaking to you again.
