Thanks guys. Dave, the senate leader (Burton--D) is already publicly saying quite often that the dems will not scale anything back at all. In other words, he thinks the current budget in the red is the way to go. He is being a bonehead and is desperately missing the point completely.
Anybody who thinks this is Republicans verse Democrats or conservatives verse liberals, etc. is severely missing the point of this special election. This is a huge majority of Californians saying the system is broken, now fix it. People across the political spectrum are energized and many are flat not taking it anymore. There are groups trying to repeal different laws by the ballot process and many more who are paying much closer attention to what THEIR specific political representative is saying, and more importantly, doing.
If Burton seriously thinks Arnold doesn' t have a mandate to balance the budget and roll back some assinine laws like the increased car reg tax and the drivers licenses for illegal immigrants and creating a balanced budget, then that person is nearing the end of their political career and an absolute moron to boot.
Even the dumbest political analyst can figure it out--People from all over the world came to see Arnold sworn in as governor. People in this very state actually cheered Arnold more than Bush when both visited some fire scene. Anytime Arnold talks, he gets mega media coverage and not some 2-second sound bite that cuts out what he' s really saying. Burton or any other obstructionist simply does not have the money, air time, political muscle, moxie or any other method or means of prevailing. In short, Burton might as well arm wrestle Arnold cause the outcome will be the same.
The Democrats want to be the party of the people. Well, the people in California (including many democrats) just elected Arnold and told Cruz Bustamante no way. If Burton or any other democrat obstructionist isn' t careful, they will be voted out in the next election. If Arnold plays hardball, Burton or anybody else could actually be recalled (don' t think a lot of Californians of ALL political parties aren' t thinking about that).
As for the firearm issue Dave, every single gun group has been contacting Arnold with a flood of mail, etc. I think Arnold will be more inclined to listen when he starts regularly hearing about why so many anti-gun bills are actually bad. We are going to continue electing pro-gun officials in California and I believe we will someday prevail and then start turning a lot of this crap around. Recalling Davis just sent a message that every politician in California (and most of the country) heard. I believe that better days are ahead for all of us gunowners.
