Default Wind Storms in the North East........

Yesterday around 5:00pm the winds really started howling here in Pa. I remember going to bed and saying to my wife " I hope that old Maple in the front of the house doesn' t come down" Well.......It did! It smashed into the roof, pulled the cable telephone and electric lines away from the house. My bedrrom is on the front of the house on the first floor, 4 windows in the room....branches touching the glass ...None broken! I just finished remodeling the front room on the second floor into a bedroom for my mother to stay in, she' s getting up there in age so I wanted her close by. Anyway 2 windows in the room, branches touching the glass...none broken! The roof on the other hand has alot of damage. The roar of that tree comming down was unbelievable can' t even describe it. The whole house shook like an earthquake had hit. Although the outside wiring was all pulled from the house , none of it was disconnected, except the cable tv lines, but I have a dish. The only thing that feel onto my mother' s bed from a shelf next to it was a small angel figurine.

Do you believe in divine intervention?? I do!

Default RE: Wind Storms in the North East........

It appears we lost two young men (15 yr and 16yrs) to the winds. They were out on Lake Winnebago (28 1/2 miles long and 10 1/2 miles wide) duck hunting when the storm/wind kicked in here. They haven' t been seen since. Their boat and decoys were found blown to shore and there is a search on for them now. The searcher are checking some of the marsh islands but there is little hope they made it.
Back in the late 40' s there was a similar wind storm and temperature drop on Nov 11th 1947 I think and there was something like 14 duck hunter lost to the storm along the Mississippi River just below La Crosse WI.

Default RE: Wind Storms in the North East........

It' s been blowing pretty good here also. Gusts in excess of sixty miles an hour starting about one AM last night.

There was some six inches of rain here yesterday also.

The creeks and rivers are pretty well swollen over so there is the occasional hunter stuck on the " other" side.

Me and everyone I was with filled our tags on monday and after spending most of tuesday putting it all in freezer wrap, we opted out of dancing in the rain on wednesday. It' s a good thing too...the wind has not slacked off even a little here. The windows in my house are quite litterally " whistling" as I write this. There is no snow on the ground, but I don' t think it' s for lack of trying,,,there is plenty of it swirling around in little mini-tornadoes in the yard.

Tomorrow promises to be a great day despite the twenty degree temperatures. the wind is supposed to die down and the sun is gonna come out. This is quite litterally gonna be a banner year for hunting in my area...EVERYONE is killing deer.
