Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Unions + voting

I was eatting lunch today with a few union steel workers and the voting topic came up. They were talking that the union would be endorsing a democrat for president (of course) so they would be voting that way since there union says to. They were all even laughing about voting for a stupid democrat. None of them would admit to voting outside of union lines though. Here in this forum I would say the majority (vocal anyway) are of conservative values, there also has to be a good portion of people here that are union workers. So my question is as follows..

If you are a republican union worker, do you just blow it all off and go on with your life, or do you follow union lines on voting even if you would have voted for someone else?

I have never understood this, folks voting for a person just because they are a certain party. I vote for the person who favors my way of life, thoughts, etc... Just because Joe is a conservative does not mean he may be the best person for the Job what if Joe classifies himself as such-and-such a party but hates guns do you still give him the vote? In my opinion this is blind voting and if the country gets screwed up because a person votes party and not person then they get what they diserve. I hear folks saying all the time I don' t really like so-and-so but he is in my party so I quess I' m stuck with him, WHY? I am not a pro. at voting and I don' t get involved with this party-that-party so maybe someone can explain how things work?

I' m a union worker and they always push democrats I vote for who I believe is the best for my family and the country at the time. The sad truth is both parties have their problems.

I' m a 22 yr. UAW member. I like the union endorsement sheet they put out before an election, it gives me a list of who not to vote for. And I file a remimbersement letter each year to get the portion of dues money that they spend on politics returned to me.

thats a good point 722. I do vote Republican way more than any other, but I won' t vote straight republican on anything. I' ve been ripped many times for stating this. My neighbor is the local republican chairman (or woman in this case) She has little rallys for the republican for every time a election comes up. When it comes to the local elections more than any, I' ve always made the point that the whole rep/dem is really out the window. I will vote for the best person. She gets so pissed, it' s funny. I' ve been told I' m the reason why america is going to crap.

It puzzles me why unions would want to vote Democrat anyway. Maybe years ago but now? Hard working guys are supporting politicians you would over-tax them and give their money to special interest groups and people who make a living off of taking advantage of government programs (like welfare). The Democrats don' t even surround themselves with these people or hard working men and women. They surround themselves with Hollywood elitists.

Jorgy I am a (or was I?) a Democrat union worker, and basically I pay no mind to thier recommendations.[] In reality I now have to call myself independant [:-]because I really don' t believe in EITHER partys full line.I believe in gun rights and land use rights and all other rights that make sense (GOP), But I also want to protect workers rights (Dem.)
One other thing -I agree with others on this thread that have stated or implied that politicians can ONLY be trusted when they say thier opponent is lieing
