Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Smoking in Restaurants

Does smoking in restaurants annoy the hell out of anybody else? I cannot stand sitting down with a plate full of good food, only to be inundated by smoke to the point of not being able to taste my food. Anyone who smokes just cannot relate to this. They are already permeated with smoke to the point that they can' t smell it any more. Not so for the non smoker.

Is there some unknown reason why they can' t wait until they are outside or in their car??? Non smokers, children and pregnant women should NOT have to breath unwanted cigarette smoke just because some dude can' t walk outside to continue slowly killing himself.

I know someone will come back with " Don' t go there" or " Go to restaurants with no smoking sections" , but not all restaurants are big enough to have a non smoking section and the ones that do cannot keep the smoke from traveling. If a restaurant owner makes it a non smoking establishment they will lose customers.

Sooner or later, smoking is going to be banned in all public places by the government which is really a shame. This is an area where common decency and respect for others should dictate ones behavior instead of having to pass more laws.

Anybody else feel this way?

I cannot wait for the day when they Ban that lousy stinking habit from all public places. Many states have. Unfortunatley they still allow that air pollution where I live. I have seen many people have to get up and leave thier meal set because some inconsiderate slob can' t wait for a few minutes to get his fix.[:@]

Well up here in Hillary land it is allready banned in restaurants and bars. I think it is bullsh** if I am the owner of a private business, like a bar then it should be my right to post laws like smoking. It really sucks when the government comes in and tells a bar owner he can no longer allow something(like smoking), next they' ll tell him he can' t serve alcohol. No more pool tables, or dart boards, chance of someone getting hit with a ball, or dart.

If someone does not like the way a certain bar is being run then eat some where else or stay the " F" home and cook your own damn dinner. It is your choice where you eat if you don' t like the way that business is run then make a different choice. The same goes for the owner it is his choice of how his business is run if he chooses to loose customers because of smoke then it should still be his/her choice. Oh I don' t smoke either in case you were wondering.

My buddies bar has seen a dramatic decrease in buisness since the law went into effect in NY.

I don' t smoke but when I go into a bar you have to expect it.

The law here was actually pushed by employees, afriad their going to get cancer from second hand smoke. Well go work somewhere else.

I' ve honestly never had my meal ruined by someone smoking near me. When asked where I wanted to sit my reply was alway' s" where ever you have a table open."

You can' t even smoke outside in NY if there is a canopy over the area, or if you have a cateror at your own house. It' s insane.

Well I chew and dip tobacco, so in the line of thinking it would be alright to spit on others as I am doing it. It is on the same line with the second hand smoke. I don' t smoke and can' t stand the smell of it and I don' t want to breath it so if it only affected the smoker that would be fine with me.

I cannot agree more with Mod and Fng. You other guys kill me. You actually want the gov. to be able to come into YOUR privately owned business and tell you what your customers can and can' t do, when they are within the law? Last time I checked smoking was legal. Next they will be telling you what you can and can' t do in your privatly owned houses.

I don' t smoke, and never have. I hate it. I hate sitting down and gagging on smoke while trying to eat. If I decide I can' t stand it I won' t go back to that establishment. However, I do not think it' s the governements job to come in and dictate to the owner what can and can' t go in there. I personally hate the smell of coffee. I' d rather smell smoke. To me coffee smells (and tastes) like burnt tea. It just makes me wanna puke. Maybe I should whine until someone passes a law that you can' t serve coffee in a restraunt?
