Default How to deal with a bully

Or better yet how not to deal with a bully. This story made the local tv stations here

A woman from Humble says her seven-year-old was bullied on the bus, and she claims the problem has escalated to physical violence on school grounds.

A first grader says he' s been held against his will, punched and deliberately tripped. It' s a scary situation for that boy and his mother.

The seven minutes it takes Shawn Farber to ride the bus home seems like a lifetime.

" There are bullies that are punching me, and every time I get on the bus they' re saying cuss words," Shawn recalled.

Shawn is seven years old and a first grader at Lakeland Elementary. He told his mom two weeks ago he was being bullied on the morning school bus ride.

" Now he' s scared to go to the bus. He' s scared to go to school," said Shelia Files, Shawn' s mother. " I can' t have that. How is he going to get an education if he' s scared? He has the right to be there and be safe at that school like every other child."

But it' s when those accusations of bullying became physical that Shawn' s mom became scared. The first time she says it happened was on the playground last Wednesday.

Shawn told Eyewitness News, " They tripped me with a stick." And when he reported the incident to a teacher, he says she couldn' t find the boys.

But it' s what happened last Friday that scares Shawn' s mom the most. She says Shawn was held by two other boys in the bathroom and punched in the stomach. She wants the boys punished.

Files said, " (The school hasn' t taken) action against (the alleged bully) "¦ He' s going to go on thinking it' s ok, that he can do it to other kids, not only my child but everybody' s child who' s at that school. They are bullying and they need to be stopped."

Humble ISD Spokesperson Karen Collier told Eyewitness News, " At this time on the campus there has been no substantiation of physical contact between the two boys."

Meanwhile, Sean has his own hopes for the future.

" I want them to be nice and have respect for other people," said Shawn.

Even though Humble school officials say they cannot confirm the alleged physical violence, they say this case is still under investigation. A camera was placed inside the school bus last week, but so far no bullying incidents have been recorded.

Shawn has been placed with what' s called a ' step-pal' so that he' s never alone on the campus. The older boy accused of bullying is no longer allowed to sit next to Shawn on the school bus.

One of the things that every person must learn to deal with in their life is a bully. School is usually the place that kids are exposed to one for the first time.

That is simply the way of things.

Regardless of whether the kid comes out banged up, or the victor...Valuable lessons are learned non-the-less.

Every kid can not become the underdog that comes up from behind and defeats the bully, but at the same time, one must question the reason behind this story becoming news.

Hmmmmmm.

I suspect Rico is correct...There is probably no " Dad" in this story.

Only one way, bang right in the nose. Even if you loose he' ll find a easier mark. I know it' s not PC but it works.

Teach your kid to stick up for the weaker kids. As soon as someone steps up bullies slither away. Especially if that some one happens to be popular.

I posted this on another thread

Quote:
I hate bullies. Last year I recieved a diciplinary report on my son, he slammed a kid into a mud puddle. I asked him why he did it when he got home. He tells me the kid he slammed was bullying a weak kid on the bus. When they got off the bus my son comfronted him(Bully) as he kept saying stuff to the kid when he was trying to get into school, so jr. slammed him. I called the principal and he told me the same story. Then he asked how what punishment I was going to give my son. Told him I was going to take him out for pizza. If he hadn' t of come to the aid of the weaker kid I would have punished him.

Well my sister and I went through this (it was a racial thing but similar) we were getting jumped by 10-15 people on at least a weekly basis by kids that were 2-4 years older than we were. My father made several trips to school (a couple of which were cussing fits) and he couldn' t get anything done about it. So, he told them that was fine he would take care of it himself, so he got a cousin that was 4 years older than us and about 20 of his friends to wait on them after school. Well after they kicked the living snot out of everyone in the group (even chasing some of them into houses, that belonged to neither of the participants, and dragging them out and kicking the living snot out of them some more, they explained that they would be back to kick the crap out of them everytime they laid a hand on either one of us. Of course that wasn' t the end of it, those kids brought their older brothers and cousins etc. the next day and there was about 60 people in the middle of the street brawling with a little gun play thrown in to finish off the Memphis motief. However, I didn' t get jumped anymore. Luckily, I only had to through that kind of thing for a few years and then we moved.

Yep. And this article being all over the paper probably isn' t going to help him much either. Thanks, Mom!
Is there anyone here who didn' t get bullied in school for at least a little while at some point? I' d be interested to know! We' ve got a whole generation of kids now who are being taught that everybody has to be nice to them all the time. And apparently alot of parents who think the same thing. Alot of kids are going to end up with no idea how to compromise, negotiate, or even just get into a good fight and solve their own problems.
When I was in school, if two guys (or occasionally girls) started physically fighting, they were just told to take it across the street. They did, and most of the time they settled things that way! Heck, alot of guys walked away friends afterwards. Then things changed, and zero-tolerence became the policy. I have wondered sometimes whether some of the school shootings could have been avoided if kids had been allowed to just get it out and settled instead of having to keep it inside. I think boys, especially, have been made to act contrary to their nature. And maybe more people have had to pay for it than would have had to otherwise.
