St. Paul (WCCO-TV) A 14-year-old girl accused of strangling her newborn baby with a sock was charged with second-degree murder Monday.
Authorities were called to the girl' s house Thursday night to check on the welfare of a newborn. They found the baby already dead.
Paramedics had been called to the house about an hour earlier when the girl complained of stomach pain. Paramedics told the girl' s mother to take her to the hospital.
" The girl was examined at Regions Hospital where it was determined that she had delivered a baby," said Nancy DiPerna of the St. Paul Police Department. " When she was asked by medical personnel where the baby was, she told them that she had killed the baby."
The girl' s family told police they did not know she was pregnant.
In addition to charging the girl with murder, the Ramsey County Attorney' s Office filed a motion to try the girl as an adult.
Because of the girl' s age, prosecutors will not identify her. Her first court appearance is scheduled for November 4.

How sad this is! How can a parent not know that there daughter is pregnant?
Very, very sad. I have also wondered how parents can not know when their daughter is pregnant. I think a very large girl can probably hide a pregnancy for longer, but I went to school with a girl who was a little tiny thing, and she hid her pregnancy from her parents for seven months. How?! I have two daughters and I can' t imagine not knowing if they were pregnant! Not only am I the one who buys the feminine products they need each month, but we also talk about absolutely everything. I have a hard time believing this girl' s mother didn' t have a clue. More likely she chose to ignore the changes in her daughter----either consciously or subconsciously. This is one more reason why it is so important to be involved in our children' s lives. Spend time with them and to keep all lines of communication open. Being a McParent doesn' t work, and sometimes the results can be tragic.

That is pretty sad and i feel that the girl should be at trial as an adult. As for a parent ' not knowing' that seems kind of iffy. I think they were in denie but then again i could be wrong. Either its say to know that a baby was killed from a mother that should have not been.[:' (][:@]
