Yes.... I' m not a Rush hater, but I feel he went over the line and has to pay the price. Remember when that golfer Fuzzy Zoeller made the comments about Tiger Woods (after he won The Masters), saying something about wondering if the championship dinner will be collard greens and fried chicken? It was A JOKE! But the media frenzy that ensued afterwards, caused Fuzzy Zoeller to darn near lose everything he had. PGA golf status, endorsements, etc... You gotta be careful nowadays.
It would seem that we are building something that will set us back another fifty years when we have to be careful of any remarks we make regarding race. This type of thing does not build understanding or trust it only helps to drive the wedge a little deeper. When it is all said and done who wins and who looses, we all do.
Rush L has slammed many other people who were not black and never had a problem of this nature. Listen to some rap and think about it.
It' s not the case that Rush is needing of a job.....money isn' t that big a thing to him. He makes something like $15,000,000 a year selling republicanism on the radio.
Do we need racial issues attached to our proffesional sports.....(pastime...leisure time)...hell no. Rush get a life!!
Now the Jimme the Greek issue is a far more interesting thing. He didn' t offer opinion....he offered the truth. And we all should be willing to live with the truth.
I guess my question should be: Is it possible that the media did hype a player because of his race?
* Understand that I am agnostic on sports. I don' t even know the players, the teams, or most of the newer terminology in the game, so I am not familiar with the player' s skill level. I haven' t watched a football game for more than 20 minutes in at least 15 years. *
The media has hyped players in the past because of sex. Billie Jean King, I think her name was. They have also hyped because of race in boxing: Jerry Cooney, the guy that had his head handed to him as the number one heavyweight contender.
Are black quarterbacks now commonplace in the NFL? I recall a time when there where none, and I am not that old.
It is an interesting era: at times racial hype is ok, at other times it is taboo to even insinuate that it may exist.
