OK, Nafta is here. GM, Ford and Dodge all are closing plants here in America so they can get cheap labor in Mexico and South America. $50.00 an hour is a lot of money to put a Tire on a CAR but, These guys are going to pay NEW workers a fraction of the pay, like $50.00 a week.
So, Can anyone tell me Why the Car prices are so high Still?
Higher pay= higher car Prices.
Lower pay= lower car Prices. Right?
Thank You President Clinton. President Clinton and Hillary stated that NAFTA would not hurt the USA job market. Jobs wouldn' t Close and move away. Chase Bank just moved all it' s call takers from NYC and put them in INDIA. GM and FORD are both closing plants in NJ to move them to MEXICO. We farm less land today then 20 years ago, give the Farmers MORE$$$ and get our crops from South America. RUMOR ( not backed up with facts yet) Sun Micro and Cisco will move 1/2 of there USA job market is INDIA.( again, I have no Proof Yet, it is something I picked up.)
What can we do? Nothing really. But, you can try to write to your Elected Officails and see how they double talk you. Maybe ask your senators to add a tariff tax on ALL good brought into AMERICA , not just goods coming from Europe and Asia.
Did you know that a VW Passet would cost $7000.00 if not for the Tariffs.
Take All Tax Loop holes away from USA Companys that go outside of this country LIKE GM, FORD and DODGE. Hell we Mandated that Toyota, Honda and Nissan must make at least 90% of there cars here in the USA. Toyota makes 100% of the cars here.( NOTE: Engines are made in ***an.) But the entire car is put together HERE!
Please don' t point your finger at Billy bob and Hilly for Nafta. It was rushed through the senate and voted up by both dems and Reps.
Jobs was going over seas before Nafta and I doubt that it' s had a single effect.....Nafta isn' t the vehicle that' s causing loss of jobs...pure competition is...
The very fact that all of us go to Wally World and buy foreign goods is the reason.....Not Nafta.
I think part of it stems from the " bigger, better, faster, stronger" mindset that we have today. Look how much junk vechicles come equiped with now: tvs, DVd players, heated seats, everyones own heater/air conditioning. It has become a clas/status issues.
I have a no frills Ford Ranger. It does it' s job well. Gets me from point A to point B. In the end, thats all I need.
NAFTA may not be completly to blame but it is a lot of it. Both parties pushed for this crap. The U.S. had nothing to gain and everything to loose. Part of thier goal is to equalize wages around the world. Quess which way ours will go.
I have a couple of questions: Are the prices of things really that much different than they were 10, 20 or 50 years ago? Yes I know the price of a new car/truck, I just bought one in February. What I am getting at is the cost of things in comparison to the wages you or I make today compared to 30 or 40 years ago. In 1966 I bought a used 1964 Chevy Impala in great condition for $2700.00. I was earning $1.67 an hour working my backside off in a foundry. Thats $3473.60 a year and the used car cost 77% of a years wages. What would a 2 year old used car in good condition cost today and what portion of a laborers salary would it take to buy it today? I think it would be equal or less. Similar comparisons may be made with other products and services. A free market will equalize itself over the long run and supply and demand will set the cost for most things. As long as there are idiots like me and you willing to pay two or three times the actual worth of an item on the market, somebody will be eager to sell it to us.
Have you ever tried to convince your wife or girlfriend that diamonds are just not worth the price charged for them???
The very fact that all of us go to Wally World and buy foreign goods is the reason.....Not Nafta.
Vapodog, it is very difficult, hard at the least to go and buy something right now that is not made in this country in full or part. Just try to go and buy clothes at any store, I try to buy American made, but it' s getting tough to find that stuff !
As I sit here typing, I am looking at the tie I am wearing... it says " Made in America.......from " IMPORTED MATERIAL" !!!!

Prices won' t drop because along with the cheap labor in Mexico and elsewhere, the remainder of the money is sucked up by creating " pretend jobs" here in the U.S.
think about it. we have 280 Million people, only 10 Million are employed in any REAL manufacturing of goods, the rest shuffle paper and the like.
What I am getting at is the cost of things in comparison to the wages you or I make today compared to 30 or 40 years ago.
Real wages have not been this low in 60 years. Good news is that 57% of the people in this country are investing money. That way when the socialist ponzi scheme of social security collapses, they can' t steal too much of my money.

RE: why won' t the Prices drop?
It' s all about money and politics, money money money. If you could make an item that everyone wanted for lets say 100.00, but you knew you could sell it for 5,000.00 you' ld do the same thing. I do agree it sucks that alot of our jobs are going out of this country. On the same note maybe they' ll take these stinkin illegals with them.[]
