Say a loved one like your mother, father, sibling, spouse or child was terminally ill and in great pain/suffering with no future to look forward to and no chance of ever recovering.......ever. Could you, would you pull the plug if they begged and pleaded?
Absolutely, and I only hope that they would be kind enough to do the same for me. When my grandma was dying she had had several strokes in rapid succession and was septic (blood infection throughout her entire body that is almost always fatal, especially in the elderly) and was on life support. She was already on a heavy dose of morphene, but was still obviously in great pain. So the very difficult decision was made to remove her from life support and have comfort measures only. Because of the added comfort measures and lack of artificial support she was allowed to die peacefully, as it was her time. Hard decision to make, but only a very selfish person would allow their loved one to suffer needlessly and hopelessly just to delay the grief of inevitable loss.
I' m sure it' s easier said than done! Especially if it' s a loved one and your holding out for a miricle from God!
I hope I' m never faced with such a decision!

RE: If you could.....would you?
Been there.... watched acouple of close loved ones die, plus had to watch another suffer because certain members of the family couldn' t make a decision on pulling the plug(this person was brain dead without kidney function, no chance at life). It is not an easy thing to go through but you have to let the one suffering make the choice. If they made a choice 10 years ago that they did not want to live on a machine then who are you to tell them they can' t. It is funny how folks will put down an animal because they don' t want it to suffer, but then turn around and keep waiting for a miracle that never will come for a human.
